seems low intake does make modern BMWs particularly prone to flooding.
any ideas on the number plates? I assume the force of the water ripped them off?
just idle curiosity, I have no plans to go wading in my 3 series!

X5 back in 2007 died locally - air intake bottom-front...
interesting choice for a 4x4 smile
towed it out with a RR classic which happily went through quite a lot of water!
First generation X5 presumably? The E70 has a 0.5m maximum depth listed in the manual which is far deeper than any sane person would try and drive a modern car through.

some paper will not prevent water being rammed into the intake by driving at any kind of speed

high intake or intakes at grille level rather than under the bumper ?

Do you need to remove the plate to access the threaded hole for the towing eye?

Normal cars would be close to floating at that depth!

A mate hydrolocked his 335d in what he said was 6" of water. Does seem to be a recurring BMW theme. Mental note to myself to avoid flood water.

Are modern ones that different?

The bottom of my air intakes aren't far away from the headlights.
