And yes, the oil pick-up pipe was done early in X613's life, and then run on 5W40 Fully Synthetic ever since;
Not sure the oil pick up is a one off job, if the oil light starts flickering shut it down pronto. Also not so sure the B5 looks better than the B7 smile .

I had the pick up pipe issue on my 2001 A3 1.8T. From what I gathered, it affected most cars that were serviced with the "Long Life Service Plan" that Audi were offering at the time.

Not a nice job to do - but worth it! smile The 1.8T is a very tune-able engine! My old A3 1.8T with a ko3s turbo had a few mods (stainless steel system inc decat, forge re-circ valve, front mount intercooler, custom map on a rolling road) She was pushing a healthy 222bhp, up from the 150bhp standard. Gave my ol' man's S5 a run for its money!

Agreed, from what I've read the 'Lomg Life Service Plan' was a major factor in contributing to engine problems; most people with any sense had the oil pick-up pipe changed (under warranty?) and then used fully synthetic 5W40 oil.
I was having a good look under the bonnet this week, and marvelled at how small he side-mounted Intercooler seems; if the car was younger and the mileage lower then I would have been interested in a remap, but at 16yrs old I think that placing any extra strain on thr engine components would be tempting providence.....

Used to have the 2.8 V6 Quattro as a company car back in the day. Was a great car, and was when everyone still thought Audi was Cool!
I sold my beloved B6 S4 Avant to pay for house renovations, and not wanting to lose the practicality of having an Audi estate, I bought a 1999 facelift 2.8 quattro Avant as a workhorse with 150k on the clock for a grand. I still have it more than two years later, it's great! As above, well screwed together, handles surprisingly sweetly. I expected it to feel a bit lethargic downgrading from an S4, but it goes nicely as long as you have a few revvs on the dial. Mine has full leather, heated fronts, electric lumbar, 6CD changer, headlamp wash.... so it still has a few of the creature comforts you get used to in more modern cars.

I also love the fact I can park without having to worry about someone opening their door into..... although to be fair that's another thread entirely - the appeal of a shed! The first winter I had it, the poor thing didn't get washed for five months....

I'll second that, very nice looking; I used to have an A6 Avant in that colour.
I've just got all the bits and bobs for a full service together; oil (5w40 fully synthetic), oil filter, sump plug & washer, air filter, cabin filter, plugs, antifreeze and realised that they come to around 25% of my purchase price for the car.
Plus it will need a new 62Ah battery at circa £50; it soon adds up, doesn't it?
