It's because there are too many cars on the road.

Look how few cars there are in Norway, and how docile they drive. Look at the UK roads 25 years ago. When there's not enough space people become more and more aggressive. With the population of Manchester being imported year on year, things are only going to get worse.

I am so glad I don't have to commute.
Yes, that's why I love driving at night to various locations (I work on railway maintenance). Lovely empty roads, and the people using them know what they're doing on the whole.

I don't really like being on days anymore, purely because of the amount of cars around and the amount of idiots in them.

I'd argue there's more than enough space, just really, REALLY poor lane discipline.

That can't be said on single roads, however, I won't argue against you about poor lane discipline.

Talking of which, I firmly believe Lorries on motorways should be restricted to lane 1 only. Have a look at Germany.

You are in the right hand filter lane and want to turn left? Please tell that I am mistaken.
You're mistaken.
Your post reads exactly like that. The management requires an explanation! I thank you.
depends how you read it:

- in the context of having talked about lanes to turn right at traffic lights then there could be a misunderstanding...

- in its own context then I reckon it is two lanes merging into one - and folks in the left lane stopping folks in the right lane from merging...

I live in Sheffield. Never taken a wrong turn to Tehran, how did you do that?

You sure it wasn't Rotherham? It's a bit like Tehran.
2 month trip. France, Germany, CR, Poland,Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, through Turkey into Iran. Then went back via Greece abd up to Bosina, Croatia then straight through to UK.

If you make a wrong turning or end up in the wrong lane then go the long way round to correct the error rather than hold up traffic or perform a dangerous manoeuvre to get back into the correct lane. Eg if you realise your exit is the next exit 10 metres away and you are not in the left lane then head to the next junction even if it is 15miles away rather than force your way to the left lane. Likewise, if you are on the right only lane at a junction or roundabout and want to go left or straight then do the right first and u turn at a safe place rather than trying to go left or straight at that moment. Driving on the roads nowadays is just road rage waiting to happen. If its not the boy racers its the crap drivers who don't know what they are doing.

Just go fully round the roundabout, and then a bit more until you reach the exit you want? There's one I use most weeks where this is often the quickest way of turning left or going straight on.

(Do proceed with caution, as at some point you'll probably have to do the equivalent of a lane jump to go one lane further in. However there's not *supposed* to be anybody in your blind spot on your right at that point...)

You're making the mistake that most people use common sense. The majority go into a blind panic that they're about to miss their exit, and have no qualms about putting everyone else in danger in their quest to make it.

The whole "zero tolerance" attitude to driving is starting to grate on me. On the way home from work I drop someone off at a park and ride car park which is on a very short section of 3 lane dual carriageway between two roundabouts. After I leave the car park I have to get over to the right so I can double back on myself and drive home otherwise I have a 10 mile detour down the M2 and back. The number of people who just assume I've just undertaken the queue wanting to turn right and cut back in is ridiculous, have had all sorts of gestures and flashing. All I've done is drop my mate off and helped reduce the number of cars on the road!

Anyone care to explain?
Because a lot of people don't realise when they're driving like ******s. They're genuinely puzzled when other drivers flash their headlights or make the coffee bean signature and can't understand how their "multiple overtake in a 30mph round a blind bend" could possibly be perceived as driving like a *****r. They genuinely don't realise that the reason nothing happened is that the other driver took action to avoid them

Many, maybe a majority, of drivers, seem only to have a steering wheel and an accelerator with occasionally gears and brakes. Everything else, including other motorists, are an inconvenience.
The scary thing is many people consider themselves to be good drivers.
But physics does matter.

I'm quite in tune when I'm driving, feeling the grip, understanding about power on, power off, lifting the throttle to tighten a line etc.

Where as my mrs for example can't feel when the limit of grip is being approached, doesnt feel the car being pulled by cambers etc.
She's not interested in that stuff. Which is true for 95% of the population.

But when you aren't interested in something you can't be "good" - many people view cars as a white good and as such, operate a very black and white mentality when it comes to driving.

Just re-read the OP post and it definitely says he is in the right turn FILTER lane and then wants to turn into the left lane.

My Mrs isn't interested in the technical aspects of driving, yet she is a good driver

I find that driving a battered 20 year old estate with gaffer taped wings and missing one wheel trim tends to concentrate the minds of other road users when they get close. If it comes to a tight gap any one with any sense backs off in case I scratch their pride and joy. it also gets easier when wearing a flat cap. To be fair the estate is well maintained and in perfect nick under bonnet..
