Too bad alfa romeo isn't in the survey, I'd always wonder how they'd do.
They fell off the bottom of the table.

wink
I see your smiley, but that kind of comment is exactly why it would be interesting. In the JD Power survey in Germany last year Alfa was second, equal with Mercedes-Benz, and ahead of BMW, Audi and Toyota.

yes

Esp with the 159, a proven to be very reliable car, and also one of their most popular models.

Ofcourse, the BMW range (ex 3-series) is "polluted" with high powered models -> higher repair costs,..... Something the 159 suffers to a much lesser extent.

Meaning, many a time people say "buy Jap" as it's the most reliable. Even in threads where people suggest things like a Swift. I was just trying to point out that if Suzuki are at the bottom, then this isn't perhaps a 100% accurate view on all Jap cars all of the time.
Ah in that case I agree, but that's not what you said. wink

Congratulations to everyone at Jaguar. LAnd Rover also seems to be doing well. Great result for JLR.
yes

They've been placing high on this list consistently for about 10 years now.

Alfa placed well in the JD Power survey because they changed the methodology and went to an internet based system. Alfa's customer profile in Germany is quite young so they shot up the charts as those happy customers or fans were internet savvy.

JD power can be very misleading as so much is subjective. The Warranty Direct Reliability index is more interesting in many ways as it is based on failure rates under aftermarket warranty rather than often misremembered or inaccurate customer stories.

Interesting, maybe, but not sure it's representative. This is the index that had the Porsche Boxster as the least reliable car in the country for a while. I wouldn't pretend that every Boxster is flawless, but I doubt they're genuinely the least reliable car.

I'm inclined to take all of these things with a pinch of salt. smile

The thing is, I'd rather own a car people are happy with, as in I'm likely to be happy with it, rather than one on pure stats says its the most reliable.

So for me, as cars are a passion and not a utensil I'd opt for subjective views every time. smile

Yes but my Dad has been happy with some really really awful cars in his time. His parameters are totally different to those of a sane person. He has owned some proper automotive excrement in his time and didn't think any of them were bad cars. Only now when I have got him into cars that I know he will like (still not my taste but suitable) does he realise what he could have.

Using JD Power stuff you could reject a brand because their dealers are perceived to be poor, but it could be that lots of the people who filled it in had ridiculous expectations. It is clear with companies like Lexus and Honda coming out well in reliability index and JD Power that htings are probably pretty good with them, but there should be some caution.

Another issue with JD Power is that they have apparently changed their mentodology significantly over the years. This makes comparing year to year almost pointless as the parameters have changed.

Curious as to why the Toyota Aygo is placed fairly well whereas the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107 are both far lower when they're identical bar a few body panels and price confused

JD Power is a measure of total ownership satisfaction, not car quality. I'd guess Toyota have better dealers.

A Citroen dealer insisted the Xsara Picasso my Parents had was completely without fault to my dad after a crash. I went in and asked the guy who had told him that to explain why it was necessary for the radiator fan to operate continuously when cold starting in winter. He did struggle.
