If you want something just to keep and have fun with that's cheap to run get a basic no thrills sports car that you can enjoy. Caterham, base 911, exlise or Exige.

BUT, if you want something to make money on then it has to be a premium name and also get a limited numbers model, so as someone said 360CS or 430 Scuderia, LP560 Balboni or Performate, 911 RS. Over time Ferrari and Lamborghini etc hold their value and increase (I don't mean from new, purely talking second hand).

Caterham - interesting, fast, constantly upgradable (so over the years you can keep up with current advances if you want), cheap, simple, FUN!
..and how exactly does that fit the brief?

V8
4 seats
etc?

The original brief? Or the hijacked one?

I was responding to the OP.

My son will probably get my 3.6 and 3.8 GT3RS if he wants them..........
If he doesn't then I'll put myself up for adoption.

37 years old. House trained to basic levels. Willing to put token housekeeping money into the kitchen pot when I can.

Not a massive Porsche fan - but I think a mint Porsche 993 ought to fit the bill - modern enough to use as a daily car (presently, at least!)

Monaro?

Or a Lotus Carlton? Not a V8 though.

Dodge Challenger.

There aren't many cars that fit your brief.
You sure about that? BMW, Merc & Audi, amongst others have a plethora of options that would fit the brief perfectly.

I've been asking myself the same sort of question as this thread so I thought i'd highjack it rather than starting a new one.

Having two young sons I want to acquire a car I can enjoy myself (the odd track day) as well as with the family (of four) until I'm old and decrepit and then be passed on.

The basic requirements of the car are both related to my personal preferences as well as what in the future are likely to be features lost to fuel efficiency and political correctness:

V8, preferably NA
Manual box
Rear wheel drive
Able to fit four adults

So far I've come up with the E92 M3 - any other suggestions?
Audi RS4 - 4wd instead of rear obviously but still... future classic shirley?

the 110k spyker c8 that was advertised this week, awesome looking useable car that will most likely go up in value in the future.
