RE: PH'ers buy a chopper
Discussion
It's great we have pulled together and helped out the YAA. A hefty pat on the back of everyone who donated.
I wonder if we could turn this into some kind of annual thing. YAA now have a big new throbbing chopper, should we find the oldest chopper in the countries ambulance fleet and see what we can do about getting it a sister or some upgrades?
As someone else said it's one of the best ways to spend money on something you hope you'll never need. But as keen motorists and general loons , I'd say we are in the band of people most likely to require their help.

none of them want to be funded by the NHS/Government, as someone else said it would cause them more trouble than its worth.
Having worked with govt money I can believe that.... on the lottery funded stuff I've seen we reckon it costs an extra 1/3 to do it with HLF money and they will only give you a maximum of half the total funding, so as most of its taken up with the extra cost of doing it their way its only just worth it.....I often think its a crime air amb and RNLI arnt public funded but then i remember it would be a shower of sh1t if they were
excellent idea.and as a previous poster pointed out if we can help keep the "governments" (for wont of a better description) inept and beaurocratically damaging mitts from interfering with the day to day running of all the air ambulances by regularly donating even better, as charities go call me all the trendy names you like but....i would sooner MY money went on something we in this country rely on rather that a new fleet of mercs for some genocidal african dictator

I think it's an outrage that such an important piece of emergency equipment is reliant upon donations. The Air Ambulances along with the RNLI should be funded by the Government in full!
They are quick enough to waste tax payers money on other crap, but yet the things that really deserve it have to make do with donations. It's a bloody joke this country.

After spending a day with them a while ago looking at the new chopper and meeting them they are all eternally greatful of the money we raised for them.
Stickers on the chopper arent cheep we have a prime spot on it we also have stickers on both of the helicopters for the forseable future everyone else has to pay a substatial yearly fee for it.
The power of PH - almost make my better half understand the madness on times like this!
[quote=Gandalf Beckwith} I'd just like to say a huge thank you to WVM and Tallbloke for setting this up - it's not about how big the sticker is, or where it is, it's the fact that we all know that we "did our bit", and if any of us ever have cause to call upon the services of YAA while driving through Gods Own County (sorry - couldn't resist!) then we won't give a damn about the loctaion of the PH logo!

I agree, and I wish I'd donated more at the time, but was an unemployed student. Is the Just Giving site still there?

Just a quick addition to say that the positive effects of this amazing event are still on-going. A few days ago (according to the Yorkshire Post) the BBC started filming a new series of Helicopter Heroes. This time they will be filming for around 7 months. Whilst the facilities fee and broadcast fees won't be huge, I imagine it will buy a few litres of Jet-A1, some pilot time and a couple of jars of Nescafé for the crew. More than this, the resulting TV programme will maintain awareness in the public consciousness of all UK air ambulances for some time.

The stickers are not the biggest but are positioned in a prime spot on both sides of both aircraft and are very prominent on approaching them, agree fully with comments on logo "speed matters" sums up the benefits of air ambulances spot on and all at YAA are aware and extremely thankful for your efforts in raising that huge amount of dosh.
The people who matter know where the money came from! Alex, Tallbloke... are there still any HeliTeds available? And if so, where from, etc?
