Surprised nobodies said that if you like this 3.0v6 you can get it in the Jag X-type with more power because they added VVC & better traction from the AWD. The handlings just as good as are the looks if you go for Sport spec. And a good one can be had for a lot less than this Mondy. Just saying.......
It's quite a different engine actually. DAMB vs Finger followers, different cylinder head design, different pistons, diferent port angles, pent roof chamber angles as well as the variable inlet VCT. There are other differences but can't recall off the top of my head.

The X-Type 3.0 is a nice car with a silky sweet engine that performs well. Right up to the moment it launches a con-rod through the side of the block because of the poorly designed sump and oil pick-up.

It is a huge shame that Jaguar didn't take the criticism on the chin and evolve the X-Type, it had some excellent potential.

The autobox on that thing isn't great plus you will be essentially getting rebodied Mondeo with a posher badge. Not sure about how good that AWD system is either...

Any love for the Octavia vRS estate (2.0l petrol) of similar vintage? Seem hard to find these days....
Not with Skoda quality interior. And they are quite a few on the market. Usually with a ridiculous price tag.

Always found these to be really appealing, and are something I will definitely consider in the future when I may need something more practical.

I realise the chance is very slim but if Mazda could make a SkyActive V6 and stick it in the current 6 that would make an absolutely fantastic car. It is a good looking car and say 3.0 liters and ~260/70bhp and a pleasant sound it would be a great modern successor to the ST220.

Of course it'll never happen...
No V6 needed. Just another MPS. The original 6 MPS was a fantastic car, shame they only did it with saloon body.
Imagine if they stuck that 2.3 from the Mustang into a new 6 MPS...

Forget the mustang, take it (and the AWD system) from the (new) Focus RS. Except it won't happen as Ford and Mazda have split now and Ford took the MPS engine with them (and turned it into the Ecoboost 2.3 as used in the Mustang and Focus RS).

I'm not sure those engines are related.
I though the 2.3 is an enlarged version of Ford's own 2.0 Ecoboost and has nothing to do with the Mazda engine.

More the other way round.

So Mazda created the Mazda-L series of engines, when Ford sold them Mazda moved on to the Skyactiv range and Ford left with the Mazda-L series which they re-named as Ecoboost.

Ok so I'm afraid I'm going to refer to Wikipedia here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_L_engine

As of 2010, Ford is introducing a GDI turbo variant of the Mazda LF engine design as the EcoBoost 2.0L, using Ford's own manifold and engine control systems. Ford plans to use the L-engine well into the future for their EcoBoost and Duratec 4-cylinder generations. As of 2011, Mazda will cease to develop the L-engine, to be replaced by the SKYACTIV P-engine. At this time, Ford will be the only manufacturer still using the Mazda L-engine design.

Also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_EcoBoost_engine

As to exactly how related the Ecoboost 23 is to the L3-VDT (DISI Turbo) I don't know but it *is* an evolution of it.

5 years on, lightly breathed on with a dreamscience map, JP exhaust system and a k&n induction kit mounted in the bumper awayfrom engine heat, I still adore it. It's a shame some people have had duds but mine has been meticulously looked after, it's downside is, it's getting older , the rest that remain are getting doggier unless in enthusiasts hands and they don't like abuse. The Mk3 was a decent car in sales rep format, it's just a bit more than a big V6 with a body kit.

Well, you learn something every day. Thanks for correcting me.
All in all, I wish Mazda did another MPS. This time in more versions that just the not very practical saloon.
