Shameless plug for when I used to be (yes... used to be) rather ASBO:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2ZecqTDs00

Swapped it out for an OEM backbox and left the unsilenced B pipe in when I moved to a quieter area with old people around.

That and I couldn't hack it every day. The system was quite cheap so it was either loud or louder. Ones from Mugen / Fujitsubo are just above OEM when cruising and then shouty when you want to be a child which would be much better, but I had the OEM box in my shed.

ETA: on the age front, I think I've grown out of the car in general. I'd have a fruity exhaust on something like a V6 TT, a V8 TVR, even a V10 M5, but on hatchbacks now it's just a bit embarassing unless the rest of the engine is modified accordingly.

If oilspill has alienated Devil2575 as well as everyone else on PH, there really isn't much hope for him. hehe
I just haven't read such ludicrous diatribe for a long time. The guys clearly not stable.
I don't disagree, but you appear to find a lot to displease you on PH, so this guy's really hit rock bottom. smile
PH does seem to attract a special kind of tt biggrin

This is annoying and motorbikes seem to be the main offenders, especially at antisocial hours, though i would never stop people gaining enjoyment from their rides.During the summer months it seems to happen almost everywhere as you would expect, having just returned from a long stop in France the Harley's and sports bikes would thunder along the seafront splitting the evening air until around eleven where all falls silent again.

Best thing i heard was walking back from the beach a guy in a dark blue 80's 911 pulled onto the main strip and nailed it all the way up which sounded terrific.

All i can say is that i had to explain to a friend the other night that the sound in the distance was someone with anti lag at the traffic lights, about 5 seconds before the lights obviously must have turned green.

That was when i had to explain that it was almost certainly the Subaru that had the anti lag, and that the car chasing it was most likely a Porsche as you could just make out the flat six over the four.

I live in a quite little market town...

I have family abroad and in the UK to make direct comparisons with the youth culture. Im convinced the UKs vile and unique housing estate culture is responsible for a lot of quality of life and behaviour issues. Build them cheap and cram them in. Britain is becoming one big ghetto. No style, or taste except the odd new building or project copied directly from contemporary styles that have been in mainland for decades. Most housing in the Uk is smeared half to death with white UPVC panels wherever they can fit them in by unqualified tasteless window companies.
no pride in neighbourhoods and lack of aspirations is what comes out of UKs housing policy.

Most people I know on mainland have aspirations to build their own houses, to a high standard, quality, which is strangely affordable, by highly qualified builders. Building the communities people have pride in. they don't give 2 sts what image the car portrays. When people live in st housing the car tends to become an important statement. Britain is the most car and motorcycle snobby country Ive been in at the same time becoming one of the most unfriendly towards cars, st roads, lack of parking spaces let alone decent size garages. My Swiss friends in cheaper housing keep their cars in heated basements by default. Wtf arnt UK housing projects built with underground parking like on the mainland?

I was in Malaysia last year and hung round with some bikers, most of which ride smaller cc bikes, nippy little 150cc being very popular and the lads on bigger bikes treated them as equals. Malaysia is the most fun Ive had on bikes, yet In the UK bikers on smaller ccs are looked down on or not worthy (unless its a mini moto which strangely are allowed to be fun) . Everyone needs to get on a bigger bike asap to prove something, wear and fit the aggressive accessories to go with it, then of course the riding style and selfish attitude to finish off...

Interesting view. Plenty of Italians and Spanish aren't bothered about having their own places and live with their parents until they're in their mid 30s. I'd go as far as saying they're not very aspirational and their building standards are pretty shocking too. France and Germany aren't as bad but again, they're only any good at dealing with new build in my experience. Going further east...well...most of their tradesmen are in the UK so not sure whether anything gets built there.

On the big bike v small bike point, I think they're looked down upon because they're equated with a lack of any formal training and to bigger bike riders are just another irritating obstacle on the roads.

I agree with you regarding the generally st roads in the UK however.

Do most of your Swiss friends live in flat suburbs with plenty of space? I don't know what social housing quotas are like but suspect land prices are lower and more of the house price can be spent on construction itself, hence the ability to build heated garages when it wouldn't even be considered in the UK.

Not sure about the sophistication point. Europe always seems dreadfully backward to me and I say that having lived in a few parts of it (Switzerland, Italy, Spain and Germany).

Yep, and once you get away from major cities in Europe or outside their attractive centres, it's not that great either. A lot of Europe is covered in crappy concrete blocks of flats from after WW2/Spanish civil war. The only difference I found was that the weather and food tended to be better than the average UK town.

This has moved a little bit away from where I intended.
Both my cars are, by some standards, unsocially loud. One of them in particular.
I enjoy them and have no intention of changing.

My point was simply that, as Ive grown older, I'm now more conscious and considerate of those around me and thus where I choose to make noise (that I enjoy).

I guess its all part of growing up

I'm feeling a bit guilty/embarrassed. I eventually managed to buy a Ferrari F355 last year. It has a Capristo exhaust on it (in other threads about best sounding cars etc that combination is often mentioned - it sounds more like a Formula 1 car than Formula 1 cars do now). It doesn't sound all that loud when you are in it and from the inside it is quieter than a 328 with a standard exhaust at 70 in top, so I didn't realise on the test drives how loud it was. I then discovered that it is too loud for any limited track days (i.e. nearly all of them). My wife also tells me that she knows when to put the kettle on a few minutes before I get home. Most of the time it is kept away from my home and I don't use high revs in built-up areas. I have taken my neighbour from one side out and the adult grandson of the other neighbour out in it, so they seem to be reasonably tolerant. I wonder if I need to extend the invitation to the whole street!

The Chim sounds like a class 1 motorboat on idle and the Tammy like a nest of angry wasps throwing bolts at each other. we live in the centre of a small market town and to be honest the neighbours have been great, only one having a moan about 18 months ago when i had had to spend a few hours sorting an issue that meant tinkering for a bit, ruing up the road, back for some more tinkering, back up road, etc. Their complaint was that it was 19:30 and they wanted to get their 18 month old down for the night.

Quite often we have to leave silly early in the morning on a Saturday or Sunday - no one has moaned about this, but then we try to be as quiet as possible and leave town barely going above tickover.
