I can't find it anywhere, but I'm sure I had a 4WD Audi Quattro Scalextric car; there was a black band that was attached to both axles, driving both axles.

Thinking about it now, it was gimmicky, as I can't really see that much benefit on a Scalextric car....
Your right I had the Quattro and the RS200 both had the 4wd drive band.

I always wanted the Audi.

I had the yellow R200 - Nice car, with great lights - but as you say, I dont think the 4 x 4 helped... from what I remember Scalextric cars hardly had their front wheels in contact with the track.

I had load, all gone now but I've just got hold of a new Tyrrell. I remember having a Capri, Escort mexico a couple of 911's (gold and silver) some F1's a Saudi Williams, Ferrari, Renault F1, a green March 6 wheel thing an SD1 police car, a pair of Lorries with trailers, tr7 and some really old F1 type things. All shared with my brother.

Need to upgrade the lads set from micro to full size but I got him a set of this for xmas. http://www.engadget.com/2014/06/25/real-fx-racing/

Not sure how much fun it's going to be but looked promising.

And IIRC you had to switch the power connection on the bottom of the track the opposite way round as it ran the 'wrong' way.

I'm counting down the days until Christmas, bought one "for the kids" but the deal clincher for me was that the cars are made out of lego compatible bricks.

The cars it comes with look ok but it will be great to mess around and build some custom cars with the shed loads of lego we have.
Obviously there's the obligatory crossover track section to crash them into each other too

Now that I want I must buy for my son!

As mentioned earlier - it's all digital these days. you can run 6 cars at once, pace cars, fuel stops, limit speed, yellow flags etc etc not to mention 3rd party race management systems.

I was gifted a set by Hornby a few years ago and then with 'adults money' bought another £1000 worth of track and bits. Then ended up getting another 40 odd cars.........

My set up is semi-permanent ie comes out every couple of years for about 2 or 3 months.

I still have some of my 80's cars but they are crap in comparison to the modern lot.

I remember drooling over the adverts for these and TCR etc. at Christmas.

My parents could never afford them, so I never had one, but a mate a few doors up had a Matchbox Powertrack set.

Anybody remember those? I think all the cars used to come with working headlights. It was magical for me!

We had the power track 8000. I think we trashed it trying to recreate dukes of hazard and CHiPs, laying shaving foam over the track and driving through it!

Anyone remember a cheaper version made by Matchbox Lesney around the late 60's with a spiral spring running the length of the track pulling the cars along by means of little hooks attached under the cars ?
I had that. Well, I say "had", I've still got it all somewhere. Must have been still available in the early seventies.

The biggest trouble was that the spiral springs used to get tangled up, so it took ages to set it up in the first place. But once it was set up, you could use any Matchbox or Corgi/Dinky car just by sticking the little plastic pin on the bottom to hook into the spring. I can't remember whether you could buy extra track, I guess you'd have to always extend by the exact length of another spring.

I also remember going on holiday to Butlins in (I think) Bognor Regis, and finding that they had a room of coin-operated slot-car tracks of varying complexity.

Matchbox Motorway? Orange and yellow track - I didnt realise that it was so old - I thought that it was a seventies product. I had one, or maybe two Matchbox Motorway sets along with hundreds of cars, due to my father having a business relationship with Matchbox in Northampton.

You attached the cars using a small white plastic guide and a thick silver foil which stuck to their underside.
