Saturday 5 June: From 11.00 at Waddesdon Manor 20 minutes from Junction 7 (Northbound) and Junction 9 (Southbound) of the M40, off the A41 between Aylesbury and Bicester.

Britain’s premier classic car competition, the Louis Vuitton Classic, to Waddesdon Manor. In its 14th year, the Louis Vuitton Classic also celebrates the 150th anniversary of the house of Louis Vuitton this year. Visitors will have the opportunity to see some of the most beautiful classic cars in the world ranging from Edwardian coach-built, 1950s Italian racing cars to the latest concept cars.

House & Grounds - £11.00
Grounds Only - £4.00

Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild, creator of Waddesdon, loved France and French art. In 1874, with his French architect Destailleur and his landscape gardener Lainé, he built this Renaissance-style château on a hilltop overlooking the Vale of Aylesbury. Completed in 1889 Waddesdon Manor is the last remaining example of 'le style Rothschild'.

Waddesdon Manor houses one of the finest collections of French 18th century decorative arts in the world. The furniture, Savonnerie carpets and Sèvres porcelain ranks in importance with the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Louvre in Paris. There is also a fine collection of portraits by Gainsborough and Reynolds and works by Dutch and Flemish Masters of the 17th century, all lovingly assembled over 35 years by Ferdinand to please his guests at weekend House Parties. Outside, his creation includes a Rococo-style aviary, flamboyant bedding on the Parterre, winding walks, colourful trees and panoramic views.

if anybody is travelling to it I can thoroughly recommend both 'The Five Arrows' and 'The Lion' in Waddesdon for great food...

Feeling the ground shake as some chap revved his Blower Bentley...

Lots of lovely motors... some pretty good ones that spectators had driven to the show too... Tatra 603 sticks in my mind.

And some twat nicked my fleece when I put it on the ground to take some photos, with my fags and my spare film in it (fortunately unexposed).

Edited to add: will post some pics when I get the films back (might be a few days (seems the faster the service, the worse the quality control))

Wowowowowowowowowowowowowow

What a day!!!

Stayed right to the end to see the prize giving. A truely incredible day. Really don't know where to start. I also took upwards of 250 photos. Few choice celebs were there, Vicki Butler Henderson (damn hot in real life), Jodie Kidd (HOW LONG ARE HER LEGS?!?!?), JayKay (when he sat in the Cali he said "Dear Santa..."), Nick Mason and others.

The cars were amazing obviously, and thats just in the carpark!!!

We parked up opposite an original Porsche RS, near a DB5 and a Countach went past before we'd left the car. Lots of classic Jags, Astons, few Ferraris dotted about.

Got up to the show. If you've never been to Waddesdon Manor and are nearby you really must make the effort. It's a breathtakingly beautiful building.

I'll go roughly chronologically through my favourite cars.

The original Bentley Boys' cars were there. The Bentley 4.5litre from 1928, S/C from '29, Speed Six from 1930 and a few other choice vehicles. Really impressive seeing them doing the parade lap also. Apparantly they're really reliable and always start first time. Not band for a 70+yr old.

Two of the older Astons, the Ulster from 34 and the 15/98 from 39 were gorgeous. Really well kept cars and stunning to look at.

JayKay didn't bring his Enzo, as he was displaying his Maserati A6G/54 from 1955. I was rather fond of this car when i saw it in Octane magazine. Really impressive up close and in great condition.

The first of the Ferraris to be shown wasthe 1955 375 America, incredibly well restored with large amounts of photos and documents to show the restoration. Fantastic.

My personal car of the show was the 250GT from 1960 (reg 574NOT). Truely gorgeous from any angle and sounds to die for.

Joint equal for my second favourite were the Gulf LeMans cars, the '65 GT40 and the '70 917K. Both of these cars sounded UNBELIEVABLE. I made the near fatal mistake of standing behind and within seconds no air was left. Such powerful beats but gorgeous all the same. I spoke to the 917's owner and he said the car is a breeze to drive.

The V12 250LM from 1964 was also there. This thing sounded fantastic, and had stunning looks to boot also. Great car.

From the late 50s came the 250GT and the 250GT California. Both cars very well looked after and gobsmackingly beautiful. A Merc 300SL from 1963, a roadster, was my mother's favourite car. Very well restored and just exquisite... but then it only had 9 miles on the clock.

That's just a very small selection of photos. Once i'm back in my London pad i'll upload photos.

Cheers

Rico

Not as part of the show, and I didn't spot any in the car parking field. Be annoyed if there was one and I missed it cos I've got kind of a soft spot for Jowetts!

It was a excellent show wasn't it? Got there parked next to a 250 GT SWB and cose to several Astons.

The 1954 Le Mans winning 375 Plus was a personal favourite as was the V16 Cadillac though the undoubted star was Simon Moores Alfa 8C2900A.

Oh yes and Jodie Kidd is gorgeous in real life (VBH isn't bad either)!

tvrforever - thanks for the heads up about The Lion. The food was superb!
