I think Scameras are great.... they reduce the amount of traffic police on the roads, so when I steal a car, I can drive it dangerously, and as fast as I like, probably causing more accidents, and if I do happen to go past a scamera too fast, the only person who gets any grief is the poor sod I nicked the car from in the first place.....

The quote on the site actually says "a great reduction", she might mean a reduction in speed not accidents.

A PH contribution

In the right place then I agree but not many in front of schools in my area, funny things is along the dual carriageway towards Edinburgh there are numerous ones, usually behind signs !!!! so either protecting the signs or generating revenue. Until this government/council strategically position these cameras then they will always be viewed as a vote losing stealth tax

IMO the agenda for these 'Have your say' things is already set. It makes no difference how many of us submit a balanced and well structured comment on the matter, it simply won't get posted if it doesn't fit with the pre-determined outcome.

Me, cynical? Pah!

snip>I love speed cameras, they equate to less police on the roads so I can drive really badly, cut up other drivers, tailgate and speed, all at the same time - points on my licence - nope, I just slow down when you see the camera or others flash at you. (wink wink)<

do you reacon my contribution will get in?

Just listened to the BBC speed camera forum 'you asked expert' interview on line with a woman called Liz Barkwith.
Can't say I found it particularly encouraging. Particularly her comments about wanting more speed cameras and having no sympathy with the 'drivers' then going on to explain that she was a driver too. I wonder who she thinks 'drivers' are?
Oh and the bit about how she'd like a camera outside her own house to slow people down so she could cross the road with her kids - not a speed bump then? Of course not, no cash from a speed bump eh?
She made a few 'what a good idea' noises about doing things other than put up more speed cameras in order to promote safer roads but no real commitment.
