Random breath tests....Good idea or not???
Discussion
good idea to test for drink-driving but who is going to carry them out and how are they going to stop you?
I'm all for the abolishment of drink-driving and similar problems but with (a) fewer police on the streets and (b) increasingly more dangerous people driving it's probably not the wisest...
It wouldn't surprise me if this goes ahead and then people start complaining of more victimisation - why did they "randomly" stop you in your TVR 5 times in the last 2 months...

Such a power is not needed. Police can stop anyone at any time to examine their driving licence. Grounds for a breath test can be established from there.
yep, been there when Portsmouth police were stated in a local paper as targeting 35 yr + drivers for D&D (denied by BiB) I was stopped on the M27, at midnight (Had been on call) because "my rear window was misted up" no breatherlyser (I hadn't been drinking) and no producer.
