Swap BMW330Ci for an X5?

I have a 2001 (Y) BMW 330CI with all the options - full leather, tv, satnav, electric rear blind, electric seats, heated seats, tyre pressure monitor - practically every option available. Cost £44k new. Topaz blue. 41,000 miles. Full BMW history.
I fancy an X5. Anyone wanna trade?

I have a 360, so I don't need speed so much. I just wanted a luxury cruiser.
The insurance difference between a 330 and an M3 was horrific! Not worth it for the (relatively minor) performance difference.
Beats the hell out of me. You've got a great saloon car and want to swap it for a truck. Why??? Looking to pose instead of drive? Want to use more fuel to help out the government? IMO there's nothing an X5 can do that a good car doesn't do better. And if you're taking up farming there are far better off-road vehicles too.

I rather think a 330 ci is a BIT more of a pose than a 3.0d x5 (which accounts for the majority of X5's sold)
All the advantages of a 5 series touring.
PLus 4 wheel drive (I've got stuck in a wet field a couple of times in a car - just v useful to have that4 wheel drive on occasion -without going off road, plus the hill descent).
Nice driving position, takes up less space than a huge estate car.
ONE huge advantage virtually depreciation proof in the last few years(if sensible specced - get the 3.0 diesel sport model)
Useful for towing (still want the Tuscan challenge car and trailer - ala Griff2be)
GOOD fuel economy (see 32.0 Diesel) Had 700 miles out of a tank -cruising on a motorway.
Why the predujice - This one vehicle performs the roles of 3-4 different vehicles for us. LArge comfy saloon seats 5 ADULTS, mpv (for all those kids I nearly have), Big pratical load carrier (hatchback you see, etc,etc.
I never thought I would bring myself to own a BMW, but it is VERY good at doing exactly what it is designed for...
A lot of other 4x4 ARE just wallowing waste of spaces, but I thought we generally liked to avoid anti-vehicle predudice on this site and stereo-typing.

I doubt whether an X5 3.0d drinks more juice than the 330.

I rented one on holiday recently - really enjoyed it. Much more reliable than a Rangie which I've looked at but don't fancy.

I sold my X5 a few months back and wish I had not.
Fantastic car. And those who do not "get" them clearly have not driven one.
Its just amazing. I simply do not know how they made the X5 perform like a 5 series, even in the twisties.
With the visibility over hedges the X5 offers , I swear that I have covered some cross country journeys more quickly than even in the Porsche 996 I owned.
So they are fast, great handling, great brakes, very comfortable, reliable and retain their value well. There is little to criticise...
I really miss mine. On balance, probably one of the most accomplished cars I have ever owned.
Business commitments aside, I plan on getting another...
And that 4.4 V8 is so tempting, and no thirstier than the 3.0 petrol....

Well, i have'nt got an X5, but i'll swap you a 96 Pug 406 Sri with 120K, Damaged Wing Morror, Airbag Failure and a few dings for your 330. If you throw in the 360.... Oh sod it you can have the scooby too!

Regrettably a high centre of gravity is bad news when it comes to changing direction. I've never yet seen a high driving position racing car built so that the driver has a better view over the armco. He'd have a good view of the grid too - because he'd be at the back of it!

why do people get so uppity about other peoples choice of car?
he doesn't want to race it, he wants a comfy cruiser - wouldn't necessarily be my cup of tea, but if I had 2 kids to lug around it may well be. Each to their own as far as i'm concerned - X5 is no worse/better than any exec barge as far as fuel consumption/ environment damage is concerned, so whats the problem?

And the new model X5 is even better.
The old ones handles like a 5 series and covered the ground very well, but the new ones have a totally revised X drive 4WD system.
Its one of those rear wheel drive biased set ups, with computers transferring power to the front when needed.
Think of the new versions like a Skyline on steroids - its the same kind of 4WD set up

Gaston it is clear you have never driven an X5 and a big shame that you critise it based on the badge and not the car.
The coments on the new face-lift X5 are very true they have made a great car superb and also got rid of its only fault which was the sometimes too harsh ride on the sports suspension
I have driven many many cars of all shapes sizes and purpose, but i can't think of another car that ticks so many boxes 10/10 in my book!

You are absolutely right...The X5 ticks nearly every box.spacous, comfortable, great handling, well made, reliable, refined, fits 2-5 in great comfort and their luggage too (!), prestige, residual value, sensible sized footprint, choice of engines from sporty to economic. It can be used in town, on the twisties, on the motorway.
This an all round wonderful car and hence the demand for it.. Which other car still gets people reaching for their checkbooks and waiting 12-20 months?
The only let down I have found in my own car is the ride is not as good as a Range rover or an E or S class or other potential subsitues such as a 5 series but each of these has compromises and all (except the diesel Rangie) have terrible residuals, clauterphobic and boring interiors (except the Rangie!) and simply no sense of occaision.
This an all round wonderful car and hence the demand for it.. Which other car still gets people reaching for their checkbooks and waiting 12-20 months?

It is 2 generations behind the latest diesel in the X5 now.
Compare to the Range Rover Diesel..
0-60 X5= 8.3 secs. Rangie= 13.6 secs.
For the V8 it is the same story..
0-60 X5= 6.9 secs Rangie= 9.2 secs
And thats without corners and stuff to slow the Rangie down even more .
I love land rovers ( I own a Defender) but if you need a car which can cut it on the road as well do some towing and middle ranking dirty stuff then the X5 is the one to get.

There's nothing wrong with the badge.
It's a good truck but the handling can't compare with a good car and on those road tyres with a lack of axle articulation it's not a good off-road vehicle. Probably fine for the pony club, golf club, country club etc if that's your thing.
