My housemate took delivery of his Westfield Megabird on Friday. In hundreds of pieces. I expect to witness a lot of knuckle scraping and swearing at the "effing thing" over the next few weeks and months, and it occurred to me that it would be quite fun to do a Frank the Cat style webcam (carhospital anybody?) so you can also watch him drill holes in the wrong places. Then I realised that my webcam software can also be set to take time-lapse photography, so by the end of the build it would be possible to make a movie of the build process.

Unfortunately I need my laptop for work and don't think I can get away with "working from the garage". Does anyone local to Cambridge have a machine they can lend me for a couple of months? Prefer a laptop for it's low power consumption and heat output (so I can keep it in a ventilated box to keep it clean). It must also have USB and win98/2000. A LAN card would be a bonus 'cos then I can make it a Webcam as well as time-lapse capturer.

Hi everyone.

I've been lurking on here for a while, but I think this is my first post!

Well it is my MegaBird which you can now all see in it's "hundreds of pieces". As my own personal internet engineer, Bonce is sorting out my build diary for me (kindly hosted by DavidD - ).

If anyone has a machine they would consider loaning for a few months, that would be most splendid. That was you can all larf at me taking all the skin off my hands, or removing limbs, whatever.

I'll think of a special prize for the person who loans the equipment... it might even involve mega birds.
