Following on from the thread about dashcams, has anyone found any good cameras for recording what's happening to your car on the driveway or in the street?
Obviously some can be house mounted and powered (call them type A)
Others might be remote but wired to the house (type B)
or wifi but still need a supply from the house (C)
wifi solar or battery powered (D)
any others?
What's best?

If you are that worried, might I suggest a locked garage?

Why not start with a search on Ebay, I have one on my driveway, front and rear you need to put up CCTV signs as well. When there is movement it starts to record.
I put my own system together all in around £450 that was over ten years ago.

Yes someone nice person, thought it would be nice to use my driveway to turn round his car while we were out.
Then hits my other car and drives off, got it all on camera he got caught and paid for the damage to my wife's car. Also house insurance got a small discount as well, its piece of mind when we are out. Most people only think about Security after the event WHY?

i bought some all-weather CCTV for this a few years ago but thought it best to not install, due to a) it being a pain in the arse and b) it possibly singling my house out as having something worth stealing inside. You can't hide the cameras as such, and as mentioned you need to put signs up saying CCTV in use, even if you could!

I put my camera under a PIR light 500w which goes on at the same time to light up the area for a good night time picture.
My camera is small and not OTT in size.

I bought a couple of Wanscam IP PTZ outdoor cams off ebay, once set up you can check / operate them anywhere in the world via the net.

Got an Argos special black and white for something like £20 5 years ago, requires one wire through the wall, works a treat and picture quality is decent.....well good enough to be used in evidence neighbors car got stolen a few years ago.

Has a scart outlet which i run through a converter (£10 off ebay) and then it records on loops to my lounge media PC which i have 50GB dedicated to.

Just a FYI, but you do not actually need to display any signs or notify neighbours or anything as long as your CCTV is for domestic use... See http://ico.org.uk/Global/faqs/cctv#f1D16765F-E3A6-...

Don't think you do if its a residential property.

Only rules are you can only cover your own property.

Public spaces and Business are a different ball game.

One thing I would say with CCTV if you do do it properly, it's not easy and it won't be cheep.

Why would you not put a sign up....Mine is there as a deterrent i would rather nothing happened to my cars rather than having evidence when something does....

surely there is a signage legal grey area if the view of the camera partly takes in the street or the pavement outside your drive? We don't all have acres of grounds. Surely if the camera 'could' be positioned to see public places or other houses, even if it wasn't at any one time, this would require notification to neighbours and public.
