3 times as many 458's. Not sure I understand the question.
I have noticed that all is not well in the high end car market at the moment.
Look at the number of 458's on the market - there are dozens to choose from. Many of them have been on the market for ages. Same goes for SLS Mercs too. McLaren are not alone in this.
Another thing that suggests all is not well, is that there is a growing dispersion of pricing. Prices are all over the place, with seemingly little difference between cars to justify a £20 -30,000 swing from high to low for cars that are similar in spec and age.
It is great if you are a buyer.
But if you are selling an MP4, or a 458 come to that, you are gonna need a large tub of lube when you ask your dealer for a bid. They may well refuse to buy the car back from you, but if they do , prepare for pain..

Buyers remorse?
Maybe they'e had one for over a year and can’t afford to renew the insurance? Fuel bill?
There's a plethora of BMWs in the for sale section, including my E61, that nobody seems interested in either.
Yep. Some stellar deals on the F10 M5 going at the moment.Maybe they'e had one for over a year and can’t afford to renew the insurance? Fuel bill?

Can't imagine the pain if you are trying to sell one however.
In terms of being a sensible place to put your money, new cars all totally suck at the moment.
Only sensible thing to do is buy a rare classic.
That's the sound of inevitability.
While for the last few years the top 1% have generally carried on as normal, the people below have had to tighten their belts. Hence the supercar buyers still bought, but the level below who would snap them up after the initial depreciation hit has shrunk considerably.

Car gets bought, owner gets bored/runs out of money/gets divorced/is arrested for sex crimes etc.[/end thread]
Chasing the "cash to burn" demographic is good for the manufacturers only as long as the owners are happy to subsidise that.
Now these cars are hitting the used buyers who don't see the value in them so much or can get them in the spec they want (manual gearbox for example?), or are not available in the numbers the first owners are, then you are in trouble I suppose.
Still, good for the buyers that are out there... though I think many who are savvy enough to buy a used one cheap will wonder where the slipperly slide of depreciation will end!

So, no stratospheric F1 pricing or collection treasure for the new Maccas.
Well, Mclaren only made, what, 100 road going F1's??They must be close to having made 2000 MP4 12 C by now. The 12 C is a mass produced car and so subject to the same market rules as everyone else.
True.

Huge number of unsold cars in U.S. Not uncommon to find one with less than 1000 mils on the clock going for $60,000 or more off sticker. A great car, manufactured by a company that has very limited marketing skills. If any of you are interested in the anniversary edition, be patient. The price of these will also drop like a lead balloon .

I think it was closer to 64 road going F1's of which five or so have been destroyed....many more track cars have vanished too with one or two becoming road cars! The 12c is a great second hand buy but how many people have that sort of money to burn today in the UK or many parts of Europe?
The 458 and 12C are much more expensive than the previous generation 430 and gallardo. Just because there are lots of new buyers who can find the extra £100k, doesn't mean there are lots of used buyers who can find an extra £80k.
I just don't think there has ever been a big enough customer base for second hand cars at this level.
