Like the title says, is a lightly tuned 335d all the car you ever need? I've been looking into it and it seems the standard car (286hp) can be easily and almost cheaply remapped up to 350hp and still retain its 42mpg! They can bought for as little as £7k and remapped for 600 odd, anyone think of anything better??

They bottom out at about £7.5k and that will be a cat c/d car.

I have to admit that I have been looking at 335Ds recently.

My 335d has never seen 40mpg except down a hill!
£7k would be a sky high miler. Mines worth around £10-11k and is pretty old and lightly specced. Low miles though.

The day a diesel becomes all the car I need is a very sad day indeed.

And remapping a 150k mile BMW is a nice way to get some large bills on the horizon...

Completely and utterly misleading as you wont find a 335D with FSH anywhere near £7k unless you are looking at damaged repaired or mega miles.

£15k is more realistic if you want one with average miles, good spec and FSH and not some bodged cat C/D repair from Bradford.

Ok yeah I never said it'll be a good one for seven grand but it'll be a runner. I agree that tuning a car with 147,000 miles is bound to end in tears/divorce!

Like most of the sorts of cars people claim are all you'll ever need - they're probably right.

Need and want are different things though.

I love the 335d and would definitely have one. However, I don't know if a big heavy diesel with an auto box is enough fun to be all the car you ever need.

My friend had the touring version and I can confirm it did drift (when he wasn't in view of the car)

One of the best long distance cars and very practical. He sold it when he had his second child and brought a van and a smart car... Don't ask.

IMO one of the more perfect family cars to compliment a toy.

If your going to remap a car that's done 150k miles then you might aswell buy a cat D or C because you will lose less when you inevitably break all the other components tongue out

Yeah it's definitely more of a family car/daily driver as opposed to a sunday hoon car, but it'll handle a darn sight better than most daily drivers!
