Liverpool Victoria no longer cover modified cars.
There's a fair few mentions of this on other forums too

I have just been on the phone to LV about my insurance, you know the one...."you can modify ANYTHING as long as you dont change the CC of the engine"....
THIS IS NO LONGER THE CASE, your insurance is invalid as the underwriters have changed their minds and will now only cover alloys and one or 2 basic mods, no bodywork, no suspension, no engine, nothing else.
This took 30mins of discussion with LV and the senior underwriters this morning and the senior management in LV are having a meeting about it now as they no longer cover people with modded cars.
I was told it was ok when i bought the policy, i have now been given 14 days to find a new insurer.

they can't do that surely?
your annual premium is payment for a level of cover defined in a contract for that period of time. To agree this contract with you and then retract it within the time period, must be a breach of contract.
i can understand if they refuse to renew your cover as that is their perogative.

This is my understanding too.
I went with LV as they were the only ones who covered track days and have heard that they have stopped this as well, but I thought this coild only come into effect on renewal.
With regards to modifications, I was told anything goes as long there is no power increase (I've got a different air intake).
I think I'd better make a phone call!
This info came from me, i'm on the phone to them again now demanding to know under what T&C's they think they can kick me out.
I was sold a policy whereby i can modify my vehicle in ANY was as long as i do not change the CC.....i'm now being told months into the policy that this is no longer the case and i need to find a new insurer.
Not a happy bunny.

How did you find out, did they actually contact you?
I found out as i rang them to ask somthing, and was told then!!
Just spoken to them again, senior management this time...
LV DO NOT INSURE ANY VEHICLE WITH MODS TO ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, BRAKES, BODY, SUSPENSION ETC ETC.
(the only cover alloys, thats it!)
We are all screwed! If you have ANY doubt ring up and check, as you are not insured if you are modded and with LV.

I reckon they'll change their minds once al their business trickles down the drain - how many people on here (and there's a lot of 'em!) insure with LV precisely because they cover mods, track days etc?
If they want to switch to covering 75-year-old grannies in their diesel Micras at £30pa, that's up to them, but surely their existing business model is based on lucrative sports-car owners?

yeah, they did the same to me on the GTi, but I only got 7 days to find a new ins co... (for the record it's lowered, exhaust, filter, and has a strut brace)
I'm now with adrian flux for 1300-ish f/c with flashguard ban cover, all mods and all 6 points declared, whereas LV wanted 1100 with no mods or points declared...
it stinks of poo tbh, and with any luck LV will go down the pan because of it...

I am also insured with them and had to call them a couple of weeks ago to see if I was covered for track use. The operator had to speak to her supervisor, but eventually said that they no longer covered track use. No mention was made of stopping covering mods at the time.
I have an after-market exhaust system, High-torque ECU and now uprated brake disks, so will be calling them to see what the situation is. Annoyingly, I have a claim in at the moment (some dork let his car run into mine in the car park at Spa
), so will have to see what happens there.

If they have agreed the mods then they cannot change the terms of the insurance during the policy period - they will have to cancel the contract. If they try to cancel then get a lawyers letter onto them sharpish about compensation for lack of NCD for the part year etc and you might be able to get a full refund.
Same for track days - I have written confirmation from them that I am covered, and will be until the policy runs out in february.

My car insurance and house insurance is with LV, I asked repeatedly about modifications as my car has a sports exhaust and intake , along with tinted windows and aftermarket areo package.
During the conversation the operator at LV said that I could do anything to the car as long as I didn't replace the engine or increase it's physical displacement. And all they would require were pictures of the cars apperence for body work changes and receipts for anything I added.
I think i'm going to sit quietly on this untill renewal time in march, then if they still have the same negertive outlook on the modified car situation, i'll be taking almost a thousand pounds per annum elsewhere.

I've just rung LV about my policy cos the Chim's in for a Taraka upgrade.
After a 10 minute wait I've told that mods WILL be covered and that all that's needed is to inform them and to keep all receipts for mods as they would be requested in the event of a claim.
Even though mine is an engine mod it won't make any difference as it's over 3 litres (their're highest category).
I've explained about the worries about various other people on this site (without giving the site name) and have asked for a letter confirming what they've told me, to help ease other people's minds as well as my own.
Once I've received it I'll scan it and post it up if Ted doesn't mind.

Further to our recent telephone conversation regardsing the internal engine modifications you are making to your vehicle, i am writing in response to your request of confirmation that we will cover this in the event of a claim.
For this policy we no longer ask if vehicles have been modified, if the information is volunteered then we may adjust the vehicle acccordingly. As you are making an amendment to the performance of your engine then we would look to increase the engine size as appropriate.
However looking at the current information for your vehicle, it is noted as being a 3.0+ engine which is the highest size to go to. it may be advisable to keep receipts of any work that is carried out to your vehicle and for peace of mind we can input a note on your policy for any modifications made.
