Boy caught on speed camera 19 times

A boy racer lost his licence after speeding past a speed camera 19 times in a single night.

The teenager swapped his car's number plate with a fake one and deliberately raced past the camera.

The unnamed 19-year-old and his three friends were snapped in various poses - usually hanging out of the car windows making obscene gestures and believing police would not be able to trace them.

They were recorded at speeds almost three times the legal 30mph limit.

But police in Bern, Switzerland circulated the images to their patrol units and the teenage racer was stopped as he set off home in the yellow Citroen with the fake plates still attached.

Und you thought we were such "obedient" peoples over there ....

But ... what a plonker......not to have stopped and removed his plates....

I was more concerned with him doing 90mph in a 30mph zone, not removing the plates just confirms his stupidity.

Wow, I do believe this is my 2,000th post!

I am trying to work out how he managed to drive past the scam in Berne at that speed...... I know where they all are ... not that easy to do it... There are five possibles .... und not sure how he would have accelerated to 90 mph

We sure we not confusing 90 kph mit mph - in which case still an appalling 56 mph - but that would be more credible than 90 mph.... especially given the obscene gestures und the hanging out of the window...

Still .. Berne has chavs....

I do believe youre falling into the speed kills trap.
Why? Speed limits can be entirely unrealistic, unjustifiable yet imposed for a politcal reason.
It dosent automatically follow that the "limit" he broke was a reasonably imposed one in the first place.
We should get all the facts first.

Congrats on 2000th posting!

I don't think I am falling into the 'speed kills' trap at all. I am in fact a big believer in 'inappropriate speed' being dangerous. My comment was made given that I could not think of any 30mph speed limit I had seen where 90mph (particularly with people hanging out of the window of the car) would be acceptably safe to me.

What was the problem? These folk are clearly short of a grey cell or two but they didn't crash after multiple passes and nobody was hurt.

The notion that 90 mph in a 30 is somehow inherently unsafe presupposes all sorts of thigns, such as the 30 is justified, and that the reasons for it being 'justified' applied at that particular time.

There's a dual carriageway I drive on regularly that has a 30 mph limit, no housing anywhere near by etc etc, and 90 would be child's play at certain times of day or night. Cracking the ton wouldn't be a problem in the early hours - - yet it would be illegal and result in a ban and big fine. Why FFS?

Congrats on your 2k post BTW, but can't say it was a belter

I'd just like to point out there are many 30 zones now where 56 is not appalling, dangerous, or anything else. They are normal straight country roads that just happen to be in Suffolk. Let's not become magistrates

Driving by numbers - - whether a claim on safety to slow people down, or an excuse to drive at speed - - is a crazy principle with no basis. The numbers don't matter except of course as far as legality is concerned. There is nothing inherently unsafe about 90 kph or 90 mph or 90 anythingelseph. The law and safety have parted company, and not just in Suffolk.

Yet we laugh with amusement at the Australian lads who did exactly the same with a plate matching that of a Scamera Van...

But despite the valid arguments from deltaf ,turbobloke and simpo two I have to say that on the balance of probabilities I agree with you!

Funny though...

I've seen people overtake on blind bends and not hurt anyone. That does not mean it wasn't dangerous - they were taking a high risk but got away with it.

I'm a litte exasperated by this to be honest. I drive a TVR and regularly crack 110leptons on my way to the shops and back (on a dual carriageway) so I promise I don't need to be lectured on the difference between speed and inappropriate speed and the problem with ridiculously low speed limits. The reason I said what I did is explained by this quote, which I stand by:
