Morning all

There has been high amounts of catalytic converters being stolen in my area (cambridgeshire) recently. Aparently theives are targetting petrol honda accords and mercedes diesels because they have a high amount of a special powder in them which can be used to make dentures for dentists. Obviously being sold on the dodgy market though. They are going onto peoples driveways and cutting each ends off with a hydrolic cutter. Me and my dad have mercedes and are worried about it happening to us. Heard a very loud motorbike going up and down my road early this morning about 4 times

Is there a way to stop them apart from beating their heads in!

They only want O.E CATS and not pattern ones

Interesting. What's your information source on this one? Do you really worry that it's prevalent enough to spend money on it?

So they jack up then crawl under a car in dead of night, remove the CAT and or CAT's silently as to not arouse suspicion, specifically to feed the dentistry black market?

I just hoped that if you were going to take the time to post something like the OP on the internet, you'd at least take 2min to research it for yourself.

"Magic powder", "only certain Hondas and Mercedes", "making into dentures"... Sounds like the outcome of a magic mushroom experience.
The fact that this thread is on the first page of Google for "catalytic converter dentures" (without "") says a lot.

Agreed, we had a spate of thefts on forecourt stock, my solution was to weld the nuts and bolt heads to secure them. Not infallible but stops it being as easy as rolling underneith them and undoing the bolts.

I'd love to know this as well. I have an OEM Honda S2000 one in my garage that I've been offered £10 for at a metal recycling place. I keep hearing they are worth more but have yet to actually find someone who will part with £100 for mine.

Why do densists need dentures? Surely they look after their teeth better than most?

Totally unrelated question, but have travellers appeared in the area of late?

My neighbours 2001 Honda Accord had its Cat removed 3 months ago (I live just outside of Cambridge) - they used a white Ford transit flatbed parked up on the actual garden and wire to cut the pipe off sliently in the middle of the night (they tighten it around the pipe) and threw the rest across the garden(s)

The car ended up being written off

It was blatantly travelers.

There are around 8-9 sites within 10 miles of Cambridge
