Main dealer wants £1000 deposit for test drive
Discussion
Having to deal with main dealerships is really pissing me off. I won't name and shame just yet. It's the second dealership that I've tried of a premium marque, after the first one failed to even call me.
So this one emailed me the details of a car that looked interesting. I emailed them back asking to come in for a test drive. It's a used vehicle they're selling for over £35K, so not exactly cheap.
The dealership emailed me back saying the car is not on site and they'll need a £1,000 deposit from me to 'order the car in'.
Really? All I want to do is look at it and take it for a test drive AFTER the dealership emailed me with its details?
What is happening to car buying these days? I'm finding I'm dealing with sales people who are rather uncouth and not very well spoken. Worse still, they know next to nothing about the cars they're selling.

Just tell as you obviously do not want the sale purhapse you can advise which outlet within your group currently holds the vehicle in stock so I may deal direct with them.
You'll find if they do want the sale they'll become somewhat more helpful if not at least you'll know where the car is a grand buys a lot of petrol to go and see it.

Sorry, but you won't name and shame at all! or your thread will be removed. It isn't exactly slanderous or contentious for the OP to fairly report what he as been told and if the dealer was likely to be embarrassed by having it reported on here they should maybe consider changing their methods when they deal with prospective customers..........

This isn't unreasonable, it'll be a manufacturer stock car, probably something of odd specification or just plain old lumpy that has a limited market. They'll advertise it and if you want it subject to approving the condition and drive then they'll buy it in for you.
O.P are you in it just for a test drive or you want it?
