Bit of a long shot this, but worth a go.

I live near Eze in the South of France, and for the last few weeks a UK registered Saab has been abandoned in a local layby. The reg is X853 MGK and from the stickers on the side it looks to have been used in a rally from Brighton to Monte Carlo, with the latter being the finish line.

It looks relatively tidy, but in the last few days the council has sprayed little lines on the tyres, which means that if it isn't moved soon it'll be towed away and crushed.

Seems a shame to condemn it to that fate (unless of course it's developed a serious fault) so if anyone has any information about it I'd be grateful to hear it.

Here's a couple of photos (best I could get from a moving car!)

Already checked that, but thanks. I was wondering if maybe it was used for a rally a while ago, and the owner stayed around here for a few months. Loads of people around here drive UK regd untaxed cars as the police have neither the ability or the inclination to check. Was wondering if maybe he'd decided it was finally time to come back to the UK, and an Easyjet flight was more appealing than paying the fuel, tolls, ferry and UK tax when he got back.

Wouldn't want to spend money getting a key sorted for it unless I knew the car worked. Plus, feels a bit too much like theft as I don't know for sure the owner doesn't want it anymore.

Is there a Brighton to Monte Carlo club/Facebook/Website you could contact and ask if they know the car?

It's car no. 32 in whatever event is on the rally plate though that is impossible to read from the photos; ought to be enough to trace the owner.

That photo was uploaded to Instagram by romuald_clariond, who described himself as a "Gumballer" in his biography. Might be worth messaging?

Jeez scared me then, we left (have a bill of sale somewhere for a breakers who sold it too) a SAAB in Rome end of July which was all stickered up. And we've also just sold a SAAB 93 for European road trip. Not this one though.

I had to look up where Eze is.

It didn't make it very far from Monte, if it's facing north.

It probably isn't facing north, it's not facing anywhere. A cheapo flight is a better bet than driving a nearly worthless car back to the UK and then selling it. You're looking at £150 in fuel and a similar amount on the ferry, plays £50 for a flight. That's a no-brainer. It's a shame, but Saabs are worthless in France. Nobody knows what they are.

Time expired cars in France often end up in Africa. They are very fond of big Volvos, Mercs and old Peugeots.

Perhaps ask the organisers for contact details?

I hope the owner disposed of it properly then, not just abandon it in some layby and fly back. If he did, he's a !

It looks as if not. Dumped is it, in my book. Even if dead, you'd just ring a breaker and weigh it in.

Incidentally, I am looking for stickers to stickerbomb one of the rusty doors on my shed. Where's the best place to get them, ideally for nowt?

That's some great info, thanks everyone! I've messaged Monte Carlo Or Bust on Facebook and left a message on their wall, although it looks like it isn't updated much and there's loads of non working links on their web page so I'm not sure if I'll have any luck with that. I'm just about to message romuald_clariond on instagram, hopefully he may help!

No reply to any of my messages as of yet frown Went to have a closer look at it today, all the doors are locked and there's no sign of any keys inside the car. May have to admit defeat on this one.
