Gov't to ban car washing at home!

Ok, maybe not yet, but see this from last weeks Auto Express (Car washing article):
"...Due to concerns about water pollution, motorists in Germany and a few states in America have now been banned from washing vehicles in the street, Instead, cleaning is done at dedicated car wash centres, where the dirty water is treated before entering the sewers. Some believe similar laws will soon come to Britain - which would change the Sunday habits of millions."
Firstly - is this true that in Germany you cannot wash your car at home? Or is this simply 'in the street' so driveway washing is OK? I find this hard to believe.
If this ever came here, that would be my cue to leave blighty. I really enjoy washing the cars (3) at weekends and if they ever think I'm going to drive one by one to the nearest car wash centre, get ripped off and wait hours in a huge queue, they've got another thing coming.
They could never police it surely, unless the neighbours hated you?

I think that my neighbour should be banned from washing cars because he doesn't know how to use a pressure washer and uses too much detergent and ends up laying a foam blanket all over the street. I think that car washing should be banned for under 18's and over 70s. Others should have the amount of water restricted until they pass an advanced washing test.
I of course know how to wash a car so should be permitted to use the most powerful pressure washer I can afford, and unlimited amounts of water. I should also be allowed to use a bucket and sponge when I see fit, because I know best.

Also, I am banned from using the external tap and external socket (paid for by all of us from the management budget) as it's "not fair on those who don't wash their cars". Funnily enough, it's OK for the gardener bloke to use all that expensive communal water to tend to the garden that I never use, and I don't use the communal lights at the back near the garages as much as some people

I remember that thread, did you ever get it sorted? Sounds disgusting to me.
Personally, I really like washing my car. Its carthartic in a way. I like standing back once its all done, and admiring my work. Then I notice all the stonechips and scratches, and cry
There are 35 million motorists in the UK. If more of us were informed about the truths and realities of car ownership and use, and used our vote, madcap cretins (in particular pinko-green car hating kontrolfreaks) would never get elected and the nonsense described in this thread would be a good laugh in the pub instead of tomorrow's legislation.

Good God Man! the article is not based on any informed opinion of the situation in the UK. It is total and utter piffle, manufactured and relayed by those that wouldn't know a news story if it ran them over. It even states " some beleive similar rules could become legislation in the UK".
If we were informed and able to critique and form our own opinion on a story then this thread would last five minutes before being laughed of the forum.

Curtains were twitching like nobody's business! Annoying thing was, in the time it took me to get from my window to the car, somebody had parked so close to me I could barely get in the door, a problem when you're cleaning the interior. There was about a 3 foot gap on the other side of their car. They then spent then next 2 hours standing where they thought I couldn't see them looking at me out of their window checking I didn't touch their 206cc gaylord-mobile!

A bit harsh - yes, these stories are scaremongering, but stranger things have happened than this, with crackpot knee-jerk regulations brought in to "control" certain parts of our behaviour. A hosepipe carwash ban would not surprise me at all. A total car wash ban might be a bit more hard for them to justify (FFS if you can tip your washing up water down the sink I don't see the problem with washing a car outside!), but if the Germans have banned it, what's to stop our lunatic Euro-lovers bringing it in for "environmental" reasons?
And in response to the 35m car owners in the UK, the vast majority are numpty A-B merchants who couldn't care less about their cars (see the people who make up my block of flats) - their cars sit there for the whole week and get used for a shopping trip on a saturday. They couldn't care less about this as they never wash the car, and would take it to a car wash anyway...

That's why the ABD has a total of about six thousand individual and affiliate members rather than six million. To many cars are white goods. If we're tempted to smile and say that a car wash ban would never happen here, remember there are currently powerful people with the ear of the government who would prefer us not to have a car to wash. And they're out to make it happen. Property is theft...
