Motorist stops and fines cyclist
A motorist stopped a 14-year-old cyclist and fined him for riding without lights and a helmet.
Police are trying to trace the driver who flagged the boy down on Dark Lane in Broseley, Telford, at about 2030 BST last Friday.
The man said he was fining the teenager £5, which the boy handed over and the motorist drove off towards Ironbridge.
West Mercia Police say the incident is being treated very seriously as the boy should not have been stopped at all.
Pc Mike Belshaw said: "You shouldn't be stopping a 14-year-old boy on a dark night.
"Whatever you may feel, whether the boy was driving without his lights on or whatever, you should be speaking to us or talk to the lad's parents.
"You should certainly not be stopping a 14-year-old boy in this way."

Seriously though, would you be happy if someone you didn't know stopped your 14 year old son on a dark lane?
Why not. It's not like the car driver did anything to hurt the kid. The guy was a motorist, not a kiddy-fiddler.
"How dare you stop my child and talk to him!"
I take it your children won't be allowed to talk to strangers until they're 21 then?

£5 is better than being killed.
Maybe next time he will put on reflective gear and lights. I agree with the motorist who stopped him..

No 14 year old son of mine would be in a dark lane without lights..
Am I the only person who thinks this is great ! 5 quid is enougth to make the kid THINK about the situation
Well done that motorist. I see cyclists without lights all the time, oblivious to the fact they are so vulnerable. If he had been knocked down and killed the parents and police would be singing a different tune and no doubt trying to blame an innocent motorist.
>please note this is not a pop at the color of skin just on observation of visibility >> I "saw" a colored lady, wearing a matt black jacket, with black leggings wearing black boots and a black umbrella, walking down an unlit country lane with no footpath, a metre away from the kurb.
She was quite literally invisble, thank god I have Rally lights on my car and she was passing in front a of a light colored wall, when I went on dipped beam she was just another shadow.
Darwin award in the making.

I had a cyclist spit on my car last week. If I'd realised at the time, they'd be looking for a non descript blue noble with white viper stripes involved in a hit and run
What an ultra-prat!
Dan, maybe he saw a mark on the car and was trying to spit-n-polish it off for you;-) LOL
Sorry but I don't believe one word of this, obviously some of you may have 14 years old lads, ask them what they would do if a bloke stopped them in the street and asked for £5, when I was 14 I wouldn't even have £5 on me if I was out on my bike, I don't even carry any money now when I'm out riding, if theres any truth in this the kid was mugged, not fined, very similar thing really
when we were kids it was called 'taxing' gangs would go round telling smaller kids they were being taxed, and would be relieved of a pound or two, or if they were really unlucky their bike
If this kid had any sense he would have told the bloke to 'clear off'
and just rode off, you can't chase a bike with a car

Meh, cyclists, joggers, all the same... idiots risking life and limb not being visible/safe, and we have to be responsible for their safety.
I had a pair of joggers spit on my car for driving past with full beam on! What, I should dip my beam and reduce my visibility to save the joggers eyes?
Surely road safety and visibility comes before blinding people running down the road!?
