Race bosses go to court over ban
An appeal against a noise restriction order on a motor racing circuit is due to start on Wednesday.
Magistrates in Chippenham, Wiltshire will hear the case for the Castle Combe racecourse, near Bath.

A spokesman said: "There has been racing at the circuit since 1950.

"Very few residents can claim that they didn't know of its existence when they moved in and the complaints about noise come from a tiny minority."

Some villagers in Yatton Keynell, Wilts complained to the district council that the noise from Formula Three meetings at the circuit was too loud.

North Wiltshire Council noise experts agreed and served an order on the circuit.

Owner Howard Strawford said he had reduced noise levels since the Formula Three meeting in 2004.

I'd love to know how many of the complainants (NIMBYs the lot of 'em) have been residents since the 50's.

It's enough to make you want a plague of travellers land in their back yard.

They would soon want lairy racing cars back that's for sure.
Any protests, I'm up for it.

Some residents near RAF Wittering succesfully sued the MoD in an action against noise pollution. They had been in residence a damned site less than the Harrier.

I think Snetterton is the only circuit allowed to conduct 24 hour racing because of the noise.. am I wrong? Does anyone know of an alternative venue?

Good luck to Castle Combe. I just hope they get the bloody place resurfaced with any extra money!

Cheers, have they got special permission for this as a one off? Or is permission granted routinely?
