I heard this on BBC radio 5 this morning. They said that 10 Brits had been arrested in the vicinity of the Germany / Austrian border. They quoted the German authorities as saying that they were racing on the public roads

Street racers clocked at 272km/h

A GROUP of British sportscar drivers were arrested by German police after clocking up speeds of up to 272km/h in an illegal race across Europe, police have said.
The group of 12 cars was stopped on a motorway near the southern city of Nuremberg on their way from Austria to Frankfurt on Sunday.
Police cameras had picked them up driving dangerously and overtaking on the hard shoulder.
Police said all of the drivers had been charged with endangering the safety of other motorists.
Four of the drivers were found to be under the effects of drugs.
Police said the participants had each paid around 1500 euros ($2440) to take part in the race. The drivers were accompanied by three cameramen and three women models.
The group had left London in the middle of last week on a trip which had included a night in Amsterdam and a tour of the Ferrari headquarters in Modena, Italy, before reaching Austria.

I notice that police only investigates in dangerous driving/hazardous overtaking, driving under the influence of drugs and forged number plates, but not in speeding.
I wonder why that australian website then has the headline Street racers clocked at 272km/h when this is the least illegal, if not entirely legal part of the story
. The German source from the thread in the 'hoon forum features an illegal street race in the headline.

Better drive without stickerage and in groups of 2...3 cars in this year's Eurohoon

Because its sensationalist and makes it appear as if its Australians who have been doing that speed(which would be a record for speeding in Australia, the fast someone has been was 250km/h or so i think on, a motorbike). It gets people reading the article which is its goal, and of course its a news corporation owned website which says it all really...

Sorry Tonker but there are people who go on some of the more high profile "rallys" where they regard the hard shoulder as nothing more than an overtaking lane. Agree about the drugs point though, hell even having a coffee for breakfast could be covered uner the drugs headline!

No I'm not telling you that. In fact if they were on the autobahn I think they were (the A7), I would have been doing 300kmh+ where clear from other traffic.
