Anyone for Ice Driving Experience?
Discussion
As many of you will have seen PH has been promoting Ultimate Car Control's car control day. This is run by former touring car champion Rob Gravett.
One of the other experiences UCC offer is an ice driving experience.
UCC blurb said:
...an action-packed 3 days at our driving centre in Torsby, Sweden. Learn more about snow and ice driving than you ever thought possible from former rally champions and experienced instructors on frozen lakes surrounded by breath taking scenery. As much moose as you can eat, relaxing saunas and quite possibly the most fun you can have in thermal underwear!
Would anyone be interested in attending one of these courses in March 2006?
Price will be £1,995.00 (inc vat). This includes flights, transfers, cars, fuel, accommodation, meals and accessory pack.
If there's interest then we'll see about getting a PH posse rounded up to go.
Call Cate on 01344 751669 for details.
You know it makes sense The price is far Far more justifiable, a mere snip even, when (unbeknownst to most) you take into account the fact that you actually do get a free hat (And a jacket )
On one of the events last year, out of the 16 people who went, 10 have rebooked, having spent the following year talking about it non stop, as being the best/most fun automotive experience they had ever had the pleasure of doing.

Free jacket, I'm sold except there is no way I will have £2k to spare for a looong time
I also see on their website that they do security driving stuff, does that mean they have a course where you can do naughty stuff like J turns, handbrake turns and so on. Now that I would be interested in

Can anyone lend me £1995 and a bobble hat?
When you find them, can you let me know too? I would love to do that course. It looks awesome.
It does look great doesn't it! If only I had £2k to spare, if I did then I would be there! Unfortunately my batchelor pad and cars are draining my resources somewhat!

If you're interested, give Cate at UCC a call on 01344 751669. She's coordinating it for us.
You're more likely to catch her on her mobile, which is 07795 494646. She is often on the track, so leave a message if you dont get through first time and remember to mention pistonheads
Hi,
For a cheaper ice driving experience, try a few laps of the Three Sisters circuit near Wigan in the wet.
I competed there in a downpour and it was worse than driving on black ice. There were cars spinning everywhere - including me.
The circuit is mainly used by two stroke carts and their exhausts have left a greasy film of oil everywhere.

Actually seems decent value for 3 days training assuming the instructor pupil ratio & wheel time are reasonable. Especially as you are using someone elses car.
Saving up to move house now though, and anything left is going on advanced road driver training + trackdays over here.
Gonna have a think though as I'm seriously tempted.

I've been toying with this type of thing especially if they concentrate on developing left foot braking. Do you know if left foot braking in a technique this course goes into...
I wonder if i can justify under our company car risk assesment that says drivers of company cars should undertake annual driver training

Going to Sweden in Feb with Pat Flynn and the 205/ BMW rwd Challenge. Last time cost about £500 plus beer and food inc. studded tyres, instruction from Hakan Erricsson, 5 times Swedish Rally Champion and brother of WRC driver Kenneth, most crews have been for 3 years now so plenty of help available on the trip, optional night on the beer in Oslo on the way home is one to be remembered, prob gone up for this time but def the best value week on the snow!!!!

But if you have questions, call Cate! She is there to talk about the course, for those who are considering it, or those would like just like to know a little more about the course itself! So far she hasnt heard from any of you
Also, Please mention pistonheads when making enquiries or bookings.
