I'm now in a big dilemna...

I can get a Focus ST3 for £14800 saving £5k off list. Watching Top Gear whetted the old appetite last night, or should I still go for my original choice, the Vauxhall Monaro?

Buy the Focus

Run it for 6-12 months and still sell for a profit.

By then the 6.0 Monaros will have hit their big curve and you'll save a fortune.

Is that with Ford Privilege? my mum can get one for that price too. Problem is she might be changing jobs to somewhere 50 miles away - if so then she will have to get a diesel

Anyway i vote Monaro, Corvette engine or Volvo engine

Thats exactly my line of thought, especially as I can get such a whopping discount and may as well get the ST3 with full leather and options.

Very different cars mate... Focus is a hoot (and as it's a turbo there will be mods for more grunt) but the Monaro is the ultimate bruiser...

Yeah I get the Ford privilege deal.

and yes, without question I would get the performance blue with black recaro leather...

Dont forget the Monaro will cost around 20K which is more than 5K more.....

You can't win I'm afraid

If you buy the Ford you will be happy that you made a good saving, but you know you could have been driving a nice big V8 Monaro.

If you buy the Monaro you will be happy that you bought the car you always wanted but you will always have a nagging that you should have bought the 4 pot and saved some money.

Buy the Monaro - this is an enthuisiasts website. What the hell did you expect us to say ?

Well, Ford workers and their families.

Whilst I do fancy the Monaro, I also like the Focus, I had an ST170 up until a couple of months back and it was hugely impressive, just lacking in power.

Some kind of twisted humour in there. Privledge being available to Ford workers.

Anyway. Focus or Monaro. Think I'd go Focus & save a bit of money, as I can't imagine either being 'inspiring' for normal everyday driving.

New ST was quicker round the 'ring than the old RS...

I can't understand your choice's, they are SO different, it's like saying, do you fancy men or women. Apart from having 4 wheel's they have nothing in common.

I'm lost. I want a GT/coupe/hatch with four useable seats and a reasonable boot.

I have knocked the huge list on my original thread down to two cars with two outsiders to test drive in comparison. they are the following:

faves:
1. vauxhall monaro = big V8 four seats and great GT car for Le mans etc.
2. Focus ST = huge fun, lots of room and from what i am being told more of a GT than a hot hatch.

outsiders:

1. Alfa Romeo GT = gorgeous but future value worries me
2. Audi TT = no back seats and gay image concern me...
