On the apr chip for the audi A4 there is a valet setting, where speed is limited to 30 mph. I AM getting it fitted!

I sort of think the owner won't mind too much. He'd agreed to sell it, the valet company's insurance will pay.

When I put a car in for service (or indeed valeting), I always make a note of the mileage beforehand.

I remember once having a Mitsi garage service an Evo6 and seeing just under 100 miles had been put on the clock ...

... "Servicing includes a test drive sir" ...

... aye, right!

Also knew a guy down south who had an Evo written off when it was in for service. Apparently, a mechanic decided to do the 'test drive' at a lunchtime ... with one of the dealer's female secretaries in the passenger seat.

Cheers,

Eric

So far two (I think) Atoms have been crashed at Honda dealers, this out of about 200 cars sold so quite a high hit rate

nope, the valeters will have nothing to do with it as the shop manager shouldnt have been there in the first place so they are washing their hands of this. I think its down to the guy driving and his insurance..but then again if he gets collared for "borowing without permission" or whatever its called, could his own insurance not also bail out on him? Thus leaving the owner high and dry claiming of his OWN insurance?

reading about this earlier;

the guy who trashed the car owns the business
the valet's insurance company has already said - "not a chance"
the owners insurance will pay out if the driver of the car is convicted of a certain offence
police are prosecuting the driver for exactly that offence

Not all damage is done outside the garage. Sometimes the customer never gets to hear about it, but sometimes it is a little harder to hide. Years ago one of the "mechanics" at HR Owen(Western Avenue) was reversing a BB512 down the middle of the workshop and caught the open door on a ramp post. It was hit so hard it twisted the shell. I would like to have been the chap that had to explain how that one happened.

It has happened to 2 people I know. TVR around a railway bridge and a new Merc driven off the ramps by the work experience lad.

I always check the mileage when I leave snything they might want to race/rally and make a point of them seeing me do it.

Is there any chance that they too can check the mileage and put it back to that after their jaunt?
