Because of the pressure of needing a working car ASAP and not having time to get any greater budget I recently sold out and went back to hot-hatch-dom. And it kinda got me thinking - in the limited budget I had to play with there were no 'real sportscars' that could also provide a degree of practicality, but are there ever?

I suppose this debate becomes pointless, becuase as soon as your budget goes over, say 20k, you can afford to buy one 'work car' and another to break your spine and ear drums at the weekend!! But in theory, if money was no object, is there such a thing as a practical sports car? Must start, mustn't leak, must be able to accomodate atleast two people .......and the crucial bit, must be able to hold a decent quantity of luggage (for example the classic 'mountain bike frame')

Does this car really exist?

Yes. Almost any Porsche. Boxster S, 996/997. Practical. Goes well. Works. Can have teething troubles but usually (much better than) OK after.

got a 21" frame mountain bike in mine with roof up. Couldn't use the handbrake but not too much of a problem.

I wish I still had it

Another 'hate to say it' but I just bought another M3 E46 as it has four proper seats, a good size boot, all the toys and 6 very nice cylinders.

The perfect Tesco run. (Except not getting let in at junctions of course).

Having owned a 996 911tt it isn't in the frame as a proper all rounder - unless all your relations are amputees. (quite a bit quicker mind!)

Honda Integra

(Seriously...although a little more pedestrian than some suggestions, it's still a hoot! And has more boot-space than my Focus!)
