Has anyone bought or sold an engine and had it delivered ? I have my eye on an engine that's for sale , the problem is it is at the other end of the country and I don't really have the time to go hire a small van to go and collect. I think the vendor may be able to stick it on a pallet for collection, and I'd then have it delivered to my place of work. Any ideas of cost or places to try ?

Thanks

Thats not going to be cheap. Personally I'd get a friend with a van and some mates to go get it. Give them beer money for the job.

Give Palletline a call www.palletline.co.uk/

They should be able to help.

I wouldn't have thought that would be a problem.

I tried their website and didn't get much luck with it. I put in a Newcastle post code and my own and selected a delivery date 5 days from now.Put in the dimmensions of 100cm x 100x 140 and a weight of 80 kg and got a price of £600 ! No matter what I did on their price calculator, it still comes back with the same silly price.Even when I changed it to a 1kg item. Odd.

Give www.parcel2go.com a call, they are the cheapest I have found for "heavy" things.

'Far side' of Nuke arsehole? That could be on the Scottish border, another 80 miles north!

The Toon is about 40 miles north of me, I could perhaps do something.
Last year I hired a trailer and picked up a TVR chassis in Darlington, then met some seedy geezer in the services at Leicester where we threw it lovingly into a Luton van. At least I think that's where he'd nicked the van
Alas I don't have access to my stopover pad in Leicester any more. But I do have jobs scheduled in Derby, Wolves, Leeds, maybe Tamworth...

Thanks for the replies guys. £75 sounds pretty good. A small van is going too cost me £40 a day, add the diesel from Kent to the Toon and back, and it makes sense to have someone else have all the hassle.

Wedg1e.Thanks for the offer. It's proving hard work to get info from the vendor,so it's not a done deal yet.

Thanks

DHL delivered the engine for my Moggie, mind they had no lifting kit on board so lucky it was an a series engine and not too heavy. £35 it cost about 2 years ago.

I had an engine shipped to London (from 30 miles south of Glasgow) for £45.

The biggest problem i had was getting a company with a lift on the back of their truck - if you couldn't get the engine into the truck yourself, they weren't interested.
