Every dealer i went to today to look at possible company hacks , they ripped the piss out of it , mind you its got some bloody annoying creaked and buzzes going on now and feels loose and crappy , comparing it to my old mondeo at 55k the lagooner feels like its done 200k , i spose the humpback bidge at 50 was a bad idea , but got some good "air"
Anyway ive narrowed my choice down to 3

1. vauxhall vectra 1.9 cdti 150ps design*
2. Mondeo 2.2tdci ghia or titanium
3. a pissat 2.0tdi se

now the vectra was bloody quick midrange and a quiet cruiser and ummm oh yes a very good standard fit DAB radio .

The mondeo bit much like the vauxhall daftly rapid midrange and handled the bends like a sports car half its size , walked away with a grin .... untill i saw the laguna

The pissat , bit of a barge not as good handling as the mondeo but very relaxing to drive interior was a bit bargain cheapo but the engine pulled well , not as good as the other 2 but plenty of room to store my weapons and get the alpine 12" sub in the boot

now ive driven them ive got to make my mind up in a month ive got to pick one

sooo which would you go for residual value etc dosent matter as its a company hack on lease ..

*vauxhall stuck design badges on the doors because there is feck all else evident of it in the car

Im thinking about it , as i can fit the Alpine multimedia into it (same with the mondeo) and still have room to spare in the boot ... but it diddnt match the mondeo for driving , but it felt a smidge better built even though the cabin plastics were cheap and rock hard , and the vectra wasnt to bad either felt a bit stodgey in the bends but the steering was quite good and felt the most solidly built out of the 3 .

Out of that lot, Mondeo.

Interestinly, we've just sacked one of our field engineers for doing to one of our Passats what you're doing to your laguna. i.e. Treating it like shite.

Does the driving matter too much, you've got a bike for fun. On the other hand, diesel spills and wet leaves abound this time of the year. Get the mondeo and bolt the stereo stuff in.

no wait for the 159, my laguna (92500 june 03) goes in july, hopefully just as alfa have got the early bugs out of the 159

knowing alfa it'll be as cheap as the others but more stylish and better equiped to compete with the 3 series

Go the Mundaneo then, not a bad car, i agree with you about the Piss-ant though, awful interior plastics. Shame about the Honda though.

the Mazda 6 2.0D is surprisingly good too apparently its just as good to drive as the Mondeo and just as easy to justify if you don't want the Mondeo.
but the Honda Accord CTDI is probably the best allrounder.
don't usually do diesel family saloons but i read a copy of whatcar recently and feel i have more random motoring knowledge to share!

If the passat is anything like my uncle's golf, don't bother with it. i.e all the controls are ridiculously light with no feel.

it was a soft 4 wheel landing though , as my uncle said once drive it hard but dont wreck it ... which i do , belive me its kept clean and levels checked frequently but its very frustrating to drive , i did like my mondeo but it was lacking somewhat with the 115 tdci lump , the other halfs got a 130 ps zetec mondeo and drove it back to back with the laguna and its a completely different animal ,

sooo it looks like another mondeo at the moment , only thing that bothers me is it takes ages for the engine to warm up , so might pay a bit more and get the ghia x or tit x with the climate seats for the winter/summer

The renault i really couldnt live with it , ok the interior is made with decent quality material its just not screwed down very well , and the handling is frankly pants , if they did a limited edition it should be called the understeer express

I think most people heard my old mondeo stereo at the last pistonfest , had to leave the engine running to stop the battery going flat

mmm, i suppose after 92 500 miles and still 7 months to go i've just got used to it, though as its a 2.2 dci it does shit on the opposition in its class, and it held its own for 10 kilometres at the n'ring, i do like wiping the smile off 1.9 tdi audis and 2.0 tdis, though its crap in first, second only gets going in third onwards

Sounds like the mondeo and the vectra , both werent quick off the mark but midrange they just went loopy , the vectra i still thenk had the best engine of the lot but the mondeo felt a better package , just wish ford would stop the stupid cost cutting they do , they are now down to not covering the screws on the interior door handles , how tight can they get ? they have got to learn its the little touches that please people these days
