Come on guys a well educated bunch like you lots should be able to tell me who STIG from Top Gear is.

we've been discussing it but the only fact to go on is that they're an ex-formula 1 driver... my money's on Damon Hill. Any advances??

Best guess is that it's some Johnny Foreigner called Nicholas Minassian ...

I think it's Alain Menu, he's about the right height, and he's got roughly the same driving style.
Either that or Johnny Herbert. Or perhaps they're bluffing us and it's Stig Blomqvist (or however you spell it)

When Clarkson first introduced STIG, he said he had a case of 'Mansellitis'. Do you reckon this is a clue????

www.nicminassian.com - Difficult to tell from his website photos.

Mind you, given his walk, I always thought Stig was Damon Hill. Or is that just the racing boots?

well thats really boring!! i was hoping for DH or maybe herbert or at least SOMEBODY interesting instead all i get is some french unknown bloke. pah!
i know viperman seems to know what he's talking about but just because the bloke tested once or twice for Williams and BAR doesn't exactly make him an "ex-formula 1 driver" does it!

oh well i guess the discussion carries on in the pub later!

STIG is rumoured to be that welsh woman Maureen, from the BBC fly on the wall series 'Driving School'

Having recently spoken to the man, he is definitely *not* French - well, judging by his English accent anyway!

Still not a clue who he is though.

Anyone thought that he's different each time????

He seemed to change "shape" a few times to me, and we have differing reports about his accent from people that have been to the show.

I thought last weeks seriously looked like DH in terms of body and posture...

It's got to be Herbert if it's a Brit. Hill wouldn't have the personality to lend himself to such a lighthearted segment. Herbert has the SOH and the height (not to mention the free time) to fit the bill perfectly.

Interesting point about Herbert, because the latest rumour goes that he drove for Audi at this years Le Mans - and he drives an A8 which is presumably part of the package deal with Audi.

You obviously know a different Damon Hill to me then, like I seem to remember him doing a "shot the Gatso with a paint-ball gun from a moving peddle-car" slot (or something) on the old JC programme a few years ago. He's always struck me as an amusing chap. He also did the Aston vs. Ferrari item with Jeremy a couple of weeks ago. However, personally I don’t think it’s him. Rich...

No, I'm sure you are right and that Mr Hill is the life and soul of the party.
