£20 fine for leaving your engine running while stationary.......What a ******* joke! Another stupid P.C "stand up straight heels together"
Where will the goverment orders end......I thought our Goverment was there to look after the borders, defence, social security foreign affairs etc., not telling us that we can`t smoke, drink, eat fatty foods and all manner of totally unneeded orders from above.
Is Britain going down the shi**er..?
I am embarrased that our brave great grandparents fought so bitterly to defend our right to be `free` when our freedoms are being so eroded with barely a whimper...
Iraq is a total disgrace....It was cheny/rumsfuld who sold the stuff....mental..
I hang my head in shame. If we reserve the right to have thermonuclear weapons then EVERY country will see it as THEIRS. The country is too spellbound with corrie/eastenders to care...Watch the news this year as all manner of totalitarian inititive`s dance through parliment.

That is all..

Don't you have to leave your vehicle first for this fine to come into play?

This is what its all about, i mean, who is really bothered if someone leaves their engine running? It doesnt hurt anyone and can hardly be said to be destroying the environment.

Parking offences.

£1,000 fine. In addition the vehicle may be clamped or removed depending on the area where the offence is committed.
Parking on yellow lines.
Stopping on a clearway.
Unnecessary obstruction.
Quitting a vehicle with the engine still running.

That'll be £1000.00 please kerrrchingggg!

The key word you've forgotten to include is "unnecessarily". Legislation has been around since 1998 with a maximum fine of £1000 for leaving your engine unnecessarily. What's now being proposed is that local councils are able to issue a fixed penalty of £20 for leaving your engine running unnecessarily. Defining what is meant by 'unnecessarily' will result in as many of the fixed penalty notices to be issues as the fine which I estimate at roughly none. It's just a means of getting through to people that, in their opinion, leaving your car idling is a bad thing and proposing a finxed penalty fine is one sure way to get it into the papers.

Do you read the daily mail by any chance?

I'm already fined if I leave the engine running unnecessarily, 'cause it burns fuel which is very highly taxed. Hence I don't need some busy body fkrs to come up with more pointless bollox, that cannot even be realistically enforced, but can be used by said mini Hitlers to make my life difficult. And no I don't read the Daily Wail it's a detestable rag.

unfortunatly "unnecessarily" will be down to the goggle eyed, spotty, single, friendless jobsworth that is issuing the ticket.....can you see where i am going with this?

Not really... firstly you can appeal if you do get one and argue the toss over what is necessary and what isn't but mainly can you really see inspectors walking up and down the streets looking for idling cars? It isn't going to happen and it isn't worth getting in a froth about.

Running a car to help you defrost and demist it is necessary from a safety perspective and no one can possible argue against that.

Is English your first language?

I found that hard to read and still can't understand it.

I don't see the problem - leave your car running and unattended around here and some kindly scrote will be along to get it moving for you

My car will sit with the engine running, doors locked, alarmed and the keys in my house.

It's called a turbo timer.

But you'll still get nicked.

Happened to a couple of peeps last winter, according to press reports.

I believe one of them was running in his own drive, but not sure about that.

Hi Mark,

Yes I agree with you, the only thing that might be a worry in future is if they go toward this new policy of looking for public spirited volunteers to report such terrible crimes.
