Hiya All

Need some advice please.
I want to buy a new Focus ST. My friend who works for Ford can get the car for a 20% discount, but thats only available to either himself or family.
What are the implications with getting the car insured for myself and my wife if my friend buys the car. Obviously it's in his name then. The car then has to stay in his name for 9 months in order to pease Ford.
Can I simply insure the car, even if the car in not registered to me.
Has anyone ever done this.

Thanks

Kevin

Yup you can do it my dad owns my brothers car but my brother insures himself on the car I'm not sure how it affects premiums though.

I know that insurance companies do usually ask if you own the vehicle you are getting insured on, so i guess it may have an effect on premiums

My dad doesn't have a driving licence. The car is in his name yet my sister (who uses her married name and lives at a separate address) is the main insured drive - I am also listed as a second named driver (also not at the same address). Hence there shouldn't be a problem (Tescos insurance btw).

As an employee, its not a straight 20% by the way, every car has an employee price specific to it. It may be 20%, but its probably going to be less if I'm blunt with you. The amount of "employees" that used to come in saying they got 20% off drove me up the wall.
Also, if its the New ST, it might not even be available on the employee scheme yet. RS's weren't at all. You may have to wait a month or two for the car to become more well-known, then it will go onto the scheme. I don't know as I don't work for them anymore, but you can get him to get your name put on the ticket, then buy the car yourself, I think its pretty straightforward, but you're friend will have to do it, and say you're a distant cousin or something.
Please, whatever you do though, is go into the dealership, go through all the quotes, methods of payment, finance etc, then say, Oh, I've got an employee ticket, how much discount do I get?
that will just piss the salesman off royally. Say you've got one at the beginning of the conversation, and he/she wil be able to work on the right price from the start on the scheme. You dont just get X, then discount 20%, a Focus ST might be £17,500 in the brochure, but for an employee it might be £16,190, no specific percentages.
Good Luck!!

Believe you're insuring the main driver(s) of the car, not the registered keeper or owner. Can't see any problem. Why not ring your Ins Co and ask the what-if question ?

I once tried to insure a car I didn't own (with the full knowledge and approval of the owner) but was told that I couldn't. As I didn't own it I had no pecunary interest in it so could not insure it. I was told that it was up to the owner to insure it with me as named driver.
