Some arse decided to break into my MX5 (mark 1) by ripping the roof. Mazda have quoted me £800-£850 for a brand new replacement roof. Anyone have any suggestions for a replacement roof/repair in the East/South London area?

I realise the sensible suggestion would be to buy a decent car and get a life! It's the girlfriends...honest!

Don't apologise for the MX5, it's a fantastic little car. I had one for five years.

I got a replacement hood for mine from www.hoodsgalore.com who are based in Croydon - I got a special order mohair hood with heated glass rear window, and they had a fitter local to me. I'd happily recommend them.

I just checked and the website appears to be down. Their number is 0208 665 6355

The one in Croydon is well known. There are loads more on here

www.ccdata.com/browse/Specialists

Then click on "Hoods / Convertible Tops"

Wardy, how's me Best Man then? Don't tell anyone here that you've owned TWO of them or you really will have to apologise And how come you didn't admit to the Primera?

I fixed a slash in mine with a vinyl patch glued to the inside with "Aquaseal", which is used to repair wetsuits. I got the vinyl and the glue from a marine shop that fixed inflatables.

It's worked fine for 1.5 years now.

The MX5 is a great car! Not high in power but with decent tires, shocks and alignment it'll out-corner and out-handle almost anything!

Very pleased with the new roof, like driving a new car! The service provided by www.hothoodsmx5.com/ was excellent, I couldn't recommend them high enough. Very reasonably priced and done within two and a half hours.
As for sjc.......poke it!
