I found this on SEATCupra.net, but felt it deserved posting on here too.
This is a harrowing story of how drink-driving has ruined lives. It is deeply shocking.

Blah blah.. stuff kills.. and maims.. and mutilates... just about any sort of death or serious injury can give the opportunity for shocking photographs..
I'm sorry but this sort of emotionalism just leaves me cold.
Tragic, but life is.. every day for a hell of a lot of people.. you'll be asking for world peace next.
Gimme a break.

Understand where you are coming from Carz, but it does again illustrate the differences between UK and US cultures... that said, did you look at the pictures - they are shocking.

I think the point here is that there is a possibility that this could have been avoided...
Harsh though this is, and it is exceptionally so I've gotta say that this is the product of giving people driving licenses at 16 but not allowing them to drink publically, regularly and legally until 21.
Kids in the US, especially lads, think that by the time they are regularly drinking (and thus building a familiarity with the effects of alcohol) that they have 5 years driving experience under their belts. In their minds 5 years makes you invincible.
I saw the effects of this all to regularly as a good friend in Seattle was an emergency surgeon in a community hospital and it really is startling the regularity with which this sort of thing occurs.

9/11 could have been avoided.. the second world war could hve been avoided.. evolving out of the primoridal soup could have been avoided - there was always risk..
people are just so precious.. life is cheap.. it comes and it goes.. sorry if this dispassionate view upsets anyone, but sometimes you just gotta see things how they actuallty are..

arrrgghhh... Radio 2 is coming after me... I suppose this thread supports the arguments on 'shocking stuff', I suppose it's all down to risk management of the individual, I used to resent having to wear a skid lid in my early biking days......recently I saw a gruesome picture on rotten.com of some poor fcuker who tried to stop his Harley using his face, he survived but there was nothing left below his eyes and the guy had been wearing an open face helmet. I always wondered what happened to him

One thing i notice about the page with the images on - it doesnt appear to say that the 'drink driver' was to blame. It also says he had 'a couple of beers' - for all we know, he may have had 2 pints of weak lager, 4 hours before driving - at that point he was most likely under the legal limit and possibly not feeling much/any effect of the alcohol. It also doesnt say that the crash would have been avoided had he not had a drink. In the end, accidents do happen - he could have avoided that accident by not driving that day at all, but she could have avoided it by staying in bed - it would appear that theyre using this tragic incident as a tool to stop drink driving (a worthy cause i admit).
Before anyone thinks im being pro-drink driving; im not. I believe that any amount of alcohol/drug in your system affects your driving - therefore you shouldnt drink ANYTHING if youre driving- after all, youre in charge of a lethal weapon so you should do everything you can to ensure you are completely in control of it.
EDITED to add that ive now seen the article itself and it would appear that the guy was drunk and veered over the yellow line....

Look at how she was, then how she is now, and tell me it dosnt move you in any way.
No one should have to go thru that just because some selfish bast couldnt say no to a drink.
I think it says something about a person when they dont feel at all for a victim with this level of injury.
An awful thing to happen, i feel extremely sorry for her totally avoidable situation.

But Deltaf, what are you going to do? What can you do for the victim? Nothing, thats what (assuming you haven't just been converted from a drink driver into a sober one after seeing this...) so what's the point of feeling sorry? What good will it do for anyone?
