It says that he's relisted it because of a time waster. The time waster is me I assume because I put a deposit on this car and then demanded it back because he hadn't disclosed that it had had a front end smash a month or so ago which needed a new front bonnet, new grill, new aircon (which is why it's been regassed) and a load of other stuff. When confronted over it he then tried to claim that he'd told me which he hadn't.

Be *very* careful with the seller as he would appear to be a habitual liar. He told me he was selling it because he was getting a company car and now he's saying that it's to help fund a house.

Frankly Harry... if I'd have known you were going to call me a time waster the meeting last night to get my money would have been a shit load less pleasant you dishonest lying self-serving waste of space and I'd have let it go but given your attitude I'd rather try and help out my fellow enthusiasts... off to the subaru boards now...

Good luck with the sale

Mark

A friend was able to find out for me and the seller confirmed it when confronted.

No. I'm not suggesting it's not a good car and I'm not suggesting the repair is unsound. All I'm saying is that the seller will not volunteer any information about the car and you need to be very careful.

Interestingly he is still claiming it has a full subaru service history even though when you look in the book two stamps are missing. I pointed this out to him and he is still claiming it has a full service history.

BTW, I offered 4k for it which was accepted before I knew about the crash. When I found out about it I asked for my deposit back and got it. Presumably this is what makes me a time waster. Given that you know more than me now that when I made the offer you may well get a car for much less than 4k if you can assure yourself it's straight.

Regards,

Mark

PS. I appreciate that this makes me look a little petty but this guy really takes the biscuit as far as I'm concerned and while buyer beware is definitely the car buyers mantra it doesn't excuse rank dishonesty in my book.

Surely you'd have spotted all that new stuff on the front end anyway, and if you hadn't then I'm assuming it's a good repair anyway?

Him lying and all that is random indeed, who knows what his motives are.

But if it's a good car and a good repair (you didn't spot it?) then you can use that knowledge to knock the price down on a good car?

I guess it depends how closely you looked and if the repairs are actually any good though

I looked pretty closely and didn't spot anything and it looks like a very good repair. Like I said to the guy last night when I collected my deposit I would have considered buying it anyway if he'd been honest up front but he wasn't and would appear to still be prepared to lie (FSH) to sell his car... would you buy a car from anyone who displayed that level of dishonesty when there's as much choice as there is for these cars? I would have my reservations having seen the way some of my mates red cars have faded unevenly due to accident repair work but there's nothing to suggest that this is the case with this car.

Having said that if you can inspect it fully and satisfy yourself that the car is good (with no assistance from the buyer) then go for it.

Mark

Good on you for warning people Dern. You're right, there is alot of choice for these cars.

Honesty is the best policy in my opinion, lying only serves one purpose.

Yep I agree, you did the right thing to walk away if you were not sure.

Chances are it was a crap repair, hence his apprehensive nature to revealing the accident maybe supports your view there may be more to hide etc.

Red would be THE worst colour to go tits up in 18 months if it was a crap job. I've seen cars repaired look great for 12 months then over the next year they just stand out like a sore thumb and ruin the car!

Yep, plenty more fish in the sea. *could* be a bargain but unless your 100% not worth the risk

I'd be lying if I claimed that my motivation for this post was anything other than just being bloody angry at this guy firstly for being dishonest even though I was honest with him about what I was prepared to pay and didn't claim that any of the faults I found were any more serious than they actually were and by being as accomodating as possible regarding the fact that he initially wanted to think my offer over overnight and then agreeing to collect the car after he had his new company car delivered (if indeed he is getting one) but mainly because he has the gall to suggest *I'm* the timewaster even though I had to drove to Woking twice and take time off to get the money from the bank and then to take it back to the bank.

Really really pissed off with this guy.

I'm the opposite. I take potential buyers round my cars pointing out the tiniest scratches so when they take the car they know as much about it's flaws as I do. That way there's no arguments later.

On a similar note (although not intending to start a trend), this (www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/82198.htm) is my old car (see profile) - And as such, most certainly doesn't come with Full Nissan Service history and is not capable of 312bhp.

Such a shame that private car sales can be made into a potential minefield by the unscrupulous.

I think you have done the right thing Dern...even if fueled by anger.

I think any 'inside knowledge' regarding the PH classifieds is a bonus for those of us who frequent PH....especially since you get plenty of non-members whacking their motors on there because it is free.

As for his motives....obvious I would have thought - he just wants a sale...

I think he should be made to remove the *timewaster* bit from his ad..

Certainly not capable of 312bhp on the standard turbo!
