How many PHer's have a smart as a second or only car?
Discussion
We own a smart fourtwo cab I really enjoy it, probebly more so than the Subaru Legacy spec B I just got rid of. ur cars will shortly contain..Smart, Audi A2, and a Stage 1 V8 Landy..After MArch the Atom 300 will be added.
I think Smarts are superb they can be parked easily cost naff all to run and still put a grin on your face when you drive them as long as they have been chipped and run the right tyres. Why do you think Gordon Murry owns one?

hand up here too
the mrs had a Passion cabriolet then chopped that in for a Passion Spring Ed (a passion with brabus bits bolted on) they are a laugh to drive, if they where a bit (ok a lot) cheaper to buy then they would be huge sucess, the merc dealer dont do smart any favours either. 99.999% of the dealers we went to just couldn't be bothered, and forget after sales service! shame really.

I had the sudden notion to get one the other day funnily enough. Was looking at the whole range, probably prefer the Coupe or Roadster tbh.
Are Smarts any cop for long motorway use?

An non-chipped for2 can be hard work, but the limiter works as quite nice cruise control
We did put 900 miles on ours in the first week of ownership.. Mrs S' test drive was from Birmingham to south west Cornwall! Go have a test drive in one.. you'll love it.. I know I did when I drove the roadie..

Yes they are fine but would suggest that larger tyres & front/side spoilers & possibly lowered springs will take any lane wandering out of the equation, done a few trips to the Highlands from Pompey and a 3k jaunt to Monaco, Italy etc recently. Mine is tweaked but will sit on a m/way at 95 mph all day, oh yes, you need the 84 mph speed limiter removed for m/way driving IMHO
If the new Project Kimber AC Ace comes to light, which i really hope it does, there'll be one in my driveway as my daily driver.
The looks, handling and fun of the smart Roadster coupe, but with a proper manual gearbox and betetr engine.
Nice, and supposedly only going to cost £12,000....

They are fine, I worked in bristol for a couple of months, kent to bristol, 166 miles each way, m20, m25, m4 and it was fine. But this was in rush hour so most of the time your lucky if your doing 50mph I never de-restricted it, as previously said it works as a good cruise control, your not going to get tugged at 84mph and was getting 60mpg easily out of the petrol version.
Funny how most people who took the p**s out of it soon stopped when you point out the mpg, road tax etc

I had one, a little black number with all the options list ticked, later added a quad exit stainless exhaust. Stupidly loud, but a great laugh.
Anyone who takes the p*ss hasn't driven one or been in one, they are good little cars. I'd avoid buying new though, let someone else take the first year hit on depreciation.

They actually don't depreciate that much.. Certainly not compared with most small cars anyway. The one i bought was nearly 2 years old and it was only about £1500 less than a new one. Did only have 3500 miles on the clock mind.
Having said that, maybe now probably isn't the best time to get one new anymore, unless at a discount as there is an all new model right around the corner. Its noticeably bigger (boo) and engineered by mitsubishi (probably no bad thing) but looks by and large the same. Should be better to drive too..
Good fun and funky cheap motoring
Im part way through souping mine up
All the best, P
I had one... wrote it off... rebuilt it and now run a passion-spec pulse (£40pa tax!) with digitec and various other little bits here and there to make it go quicker.
I love the bloody things, mine has been a headache at times, but hopefully it should give me another 40k without problem.
Is it just me, or is the steering on these things f'kin awesome. I think thats my favourite part about the smart, with the mini-WRC sound coming a close second (I run without a lid, as X-gaugers know, it makes no difference to intake temperature and gives alot more noise!)

That sounds promising, any specs released??
I want one of those Black Brabus roadster coupes and then when the engine blows/dies replace it with something with a little bit of poke... a busa maybe... just with all stuff thats going on with them and resale values now they have been discontinued, I wasn't sure whether to take the plunge....
Any opinions?? Should I/shouldn't I?
Roadsters are not being made any more but there is till surplus stock around the UK, some in Birmingham I believe. Z Cars conversion through smarts-r-us do the bike conversions (about £10k)in Nottingham. No reason for the engine to blow, they have sorted valve & turbo manifold problems, smartarse design in Watford can offer 100-125 bhp remaps, higher power requires intercooler & racing clutch, great chassis & with 125 brake not slow at all, standard 80 brake ones do 120 mph with ease, getting off the line inhibited by dinky auto box but great fun with good handling.
