So is there a shortage of carnauba in the world?
Quick search reveals, the only Carnauba palm trees that supply the wax grow in Northern Brazil only. It's wood used for building, roots in medicine, fruit as food, leaf fibres for cordage, pith as cork substitute and only the leaves for wax. Perhaps it's being over cultivated (Brazilians have a habit of cutting down to many trees) or just poor weather conditions have made a bad years growth.

To be quite frank, Americans have a habit of cutting down too many Brazillian trees.
