I work in Bedford Square now. - It is no better.

The other day I saw someone trying to break into one of the cars. The traffic Warden just walked past. (probably waiting for the poor guys meter to run out)mad

the guys trying to nick your number plates probably din't want to spend the money on creating new plates (Or not skilled enough to get them made without the car documents) - Utter sw!nes. - At least you scared them off before they did any lasting damage.

Should you be informing the coppers in case they put your plates on a getaway car?

Plate theft is to put the plates on a similar car. The parking, congestion & scamera taxes come to you.
You MUST visit your police station, report the theft and OBTAIN A CRIME NUMBER . Then phone and report to DVLA with the number, confirmed in writing. Make your car distinctive, so as to show in a scamera photo. Eg. GB stickers in front / rear windows. That way, you can show it wasn't your car, but the thieves in the scamera photo.

Mine & other residents cars are regulary vandelised due to the location they're parked (town centre). As I said in a thread I posted my car that was worth £5000 isn't worth much now due to the damage on most pannels, but is mechanically sound. Luckily I have the use of company cars most of the time but still. There will no doubt come a time I will catch these degenerates at it & I feel that it should be my right to sort them out but that'll make me a criminal, not that I'm not already what being a driver & occasionally creeping over the limit (not got any points yet.....).

Hey, they didn't say what week/month/year though.....

I still have the fingerprint on a popcorn maker of the thief who broke into my garage about two years ago.. Plod still haven't managed to get round to me, despite calls and letters. But you can bet your a**e if I drove at 35mph they would turn up.

A home cctv kit is a very handy tool. If you hear a noise outside, simply change chanel and see whats going on. way better than frequently storming outside with a cricket bat ready to brutalise some chav idiot. Makes life easier imo. I Have pir and swivel cctv setup. Not much £££ in the overall scheme of things and worth every penny if/when you catch the turds on film or in person. Car crime should have the same penalties as burglary imo. would give them something to think about.

Might be a pane in the arse but I would either put a private reg on the car now as you don't want the hassle with parking tickets and so on coming in.

Also if you do something simple like put a Pistonheads sticker in the front and rear windows, it would be very easy to tell your car apart from a clone if that's what going to happen.

If it were me and I'd caught them I couldn't say in public where I would have put that Nissan mirror!

Do what I did.

Spend a night in the car, and when the criminals...err....little darlings return, smack the crap out of them.

They won't go to the police so it's fair game to smack their teeth in.

trouble is, scrotes like this would go straight to the police if you did that. they'd lay charges of assault and you'd end up in court and likely convicted. makes you sick - they can do what they bloody well like, if they get caught it's a slap on the wrist (if anything) and if you give them what they deserve you're in the shit. don't know what the answer is but it's high time the law stopped protecting the criminals mad

Believe me when I tell you that CCTV is worse than useless unless it's top notch stuff. Black and white time lapse rubbish is worse than nothing in evidential terms and since most theft occurs in the dark, the chances of any ID are almost zero. Your best option is a deterrent like a light that comes on when it detects movement. Cage it so they can't break it, it doesn't have to be a million watt halogen light that annoys your neighbours, just enough to illuminate the car. This can assist with CCTV but again, most have hoods or scarves covering their faces.

The PIR black & white cameras have crappy IR leds for 'night vision'. They do work to a degree but are next to useless in dark conditions, as you said. I did think about putting up a small IR lamp. The easiest option was to leave a halogen security lamp on all night and every night. I dropped the 400w bulb out and put in a 250 watt bulb to save money on electricty. I used a camera with a motion detector which was pointing at my car. If anyone went near my car, an alarm would go off in my house. Effing annoying when a fox walks past my car at 4am. The most useful feature was the inbuilt microphones. Before the cameras, If i heard something outside, i would have to storm outside and see what was going on. That gets very tiring and is very stressful imo. Checking the garden with the swivel camera and listening for noise on camera from the comfort of my bed made life much easier. My cars where targetted 5 times in two years, which was why i put up cctv. After the second break in, twas war. Had no interest in evidential value . In the end i got three of them. Enough said. They never came back. They have targetted other cars in the area, but have sensibly elected to leave my cars alone.

Really good advice...doing this will save you a world of trouble...
