Ford Shelby GT500

Watched Top Gear last night and couldn't help thinking,this looks like a good hooligans car to have, i like the agrresive look of it and it looks like a laugh, realise it wont handle but still looks like a lot of fun...

what do you all think?

Marcos, Monaro or Ultima. Something with an LS in it would be my next choice if/when I sell the Cerb.

Yes i did think the VXR would make a nice tow vehicle for my westfield, cheaper than the RS4 i've priced up

I Really wanted to like it but it really did look shit on topgear. How can Carol shelby keep leaching of a British car that he stuck a big yank engine in. It is nothing more than a meaningless badge now

really like the look of the shelby GT500, but IMO Saleen make the best modified 'Stangs!

Contrary to popular belief, although the 'Stang may not be to keen on handling in standard trim, it is relatively easy to get them to handle and the Yanks seem far more boned up in this area than ever before. Just look at the Z6 'Vette ( pretty good even in standard trim ).

The Shelby GT500 is heavy, overhyped and overpriced.

Do yourself a favour and buy a stock Mustang GT, then modify it to both your styling and performance taste. 500bhp (reliable) is easily achieved and the suspension/brakes easily upgraded. The uninitiated bemoan the fact that it's live axle, but the reality is that it's a perfectly competent setup and (as the TG feature proves amongst other, far more objective tests) it's more than capable on track and road.

I've gone from an Ultima TO a Mustang Though having a young family to cart around does influence ones choices somewhat.

For the money, it's unbeatable IMHO.

That did surprise me actually, and with four doors, I might be tempted (once it depreciates into the 15K range).

The Roush Mustang looked more my cup of tea than the GT-500. The whine the supercharger makes is just fantasic. They are both driven on a recent Clarkson DVD and the Roush just looks like a better car. There's just something about those Cobra badges though...

The Mustang is like that bird in the recent Dukes of Hazzard film, you know you shouldn't, but you just can't help looking.

I've seen one that belongs to a chap who posts on PH. It is just fantastic to look at, I'd never get bored of it It looks like it's doing a ton, and that's when it's stationary.
