Billed as the “fastest lunch in Europe” I was fortunate enough to receive an invitation to take the Mosler to a privately owned Château in France (Reims area) to meet with some other supercar owners/drivers. Well I thought about it for about six seconds (the invitation had came early in the morning and I hadn’t had a coffee yet), but when having another look at the list of attendees…..

Bugatti Veryon,
Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640,
Mercedes-Benz Mclaren SLR,
Porsche GT3 RS,
Bentley Continental GT,
Wiesmaan-Roadster,
BMW M6 cabrio,
Spyker C8 etc etc…

…..decided that a Euro tunnel trip might be worth the while, to see how the Mosler fared in such rich company. So off we trundle on Thursday morning with no idea of the full SP, just thinking that it might be fun!

After a stunning two and a half hour blat (my word this Mosler is FAST!), it seemed that a Dutch TV company called Auto TV (essentially a European version of Top Gear without Hamsters and Marlboro Lights), were going to film the convoy of supercars along a route that ran between two Villages, which happened to have a nice long straight in the middle! Cameras were positioned at various points along the allotted circuit.

We did this for a couple of runs, at that point the idea was that we all swapped cars and did the circuit to evaluate each others toys, answering questions to camera later. Now as I was driving the only Mosler Supercharger in the world at the moment, I obviously felt a little uneasy about letting a bunch of guys I knew nothing about loose in the car. Fortunately the Bugatti and Lamborghini boys felt the same way, so we all opted to give and receive passenger rides instead.

Chatting to various people at the rest break a chap wanders over, eyeing the Mosler with interest, then calmly introduces himself as Bugattis Factory test driver and would I like a ride in the Veyron, in lieu of a blat in the Mosler…

..fully awake this time that decision took about 0.004 seconds to make. An awesome car in the hands of a superb driver is an experience that will stay with me forever. In return he seemed a little shocked about just how fast the Mosler really is, and how savagely the power can be put down. On the way to lunch we were side by side on the straight giving it big guns, making a hell of a lot of noise, grinning like a pair of escaped lunatics, being filmed and cheered by people all over the place!

We then had a beautiful lunch in beautiful surroundings by invite of Laurent-Perrier Champagne. What a dreadful day!

Conclusions… due to the constant requests for passenger rides in the Mosler, I didn’t get to spend any real time in anything other than the Bugatti and that is indeed quite simply a truly awesome bit of kit. Even with that outstanding price tag you can see why, if you are in that very rare position that you can even consider owning such a thing it WOULD have to be on your shopping list. Without doubt.

The Mosler handled the near thousand mile round trip without batting an eyelid. Some absurd speeds were reached in both comfort and safety, everything worked all the time and it was GREAT fun. Sitting wearily in the armchair at home last night, nursing a large Brandy (well, I was in France) with the car filthy dirty and ticking away to itself in the garage, I thought that in the company of cars far more expensive, the Mosler had held it’s own rather well.

Gorgeous orange one!

I went to the Mosler factory in 2005, and going again at the end of April (they're assembled at a factory about 10 mins away from me).

I got a ride in it from the French test driver. They seem to defy the force of physics they way they accelerate and brake!

Looks like you had a good time

Brilliant report! Sounds like you had an amazing time.

Can you inform us if a copy of this ep. of Auto TV is online at anytime. Sounds like something TopGear should have done if it were any good anymore.

Google search to the rescue:-

Mosler MT900S

Official Mosler Site

Fox News Coverage on official Site

Ps. I can't even begin to tell you how jealous I am. When will someone want me to go over so they can film my Fiat Punto (1.2 litre, naturally aspirated and a 1 of a kind as it's the only 1 on my drive) in action.

I know John very well (I'm the unpaid transport driver) and was invited on this little jaunt, unfortunately it took place on my busiest two days of the year and I was unable to attend.

I never liked the smug barsteward anyway

Glad it went well John and you had a great time.

I'll grab my bottle of XO off you when we go shooting tomorrow

I think that's one of the better colour combos on the Veyron, though it looks rather plain next to the Lambo and Mosler in the third pic.

I think I still hold the record for being the only person to ever fall asleep in the passenger seat of a Mosler! The car looks wicked, the one I went in wasn't supercharged but blew me away how quick it was.

The producer has promised me a copy of the program, I will put it on the site as soon as I get it. There is a factory tour at the end of the month if any body wants to come and get up close and personal.
