Hope this isn't a repost:

Motorist admits driving at 172mph

A motorist has admitted driving at a speed of 172mph on a road in Oxfordshire with a 70mph speed limit.
Timothy Brady was driving a Porsche 911 along the A420 near Kingston Bagpuize when he was caught in a routine speed check, Oxford Crown Court heard.

Brady, 33, of Harrow in north-west London, will be sentenced in September.

The speed is thought to be the highest recorded in the UK for such an offence. Road safety charity, Brake, described the case as "shocking".

Brady also denied a further charge of aggravated vehicle taking on Friday.

Rachel Burr, campaigns officer for Brake, said: "The idea that someone was driving at that speed is shocking and horrific.

"The chances that a person will be able to control a vehicle at that speed if something unexpected happens is slim.

"It is extremely selfish - they [people who speed excessively] don't have the right to put other people's lives at risk.

What is shocking is that people do this everyday on similar roads in other parts of the world and all kittens within a 50 mile radius don't instantly die.

Wasn't there that Japanese guy in a Top Secret Supra doing 200mph up the M1 at about 3am? Didn't he get caught by the police?

Was it stolen then?

Is that what the charge of 'aggravated vehicle taking' is all about?

If it's the same case that was reported a while back (when he was stopped) then I think he 'borrowed' the car from a dealer/garage where he worked and they dropped him in the shitter cause he wasn't supposed to be out vmaxing customer's cars (or something confused)

Good effort. Bad luck for getting caught.

But without knowing the circumstances surrounding it, I cannot pass judgement as to whether or not is was inappropriate.

Nobody else should either, including that window licker from BRAKE.

Thats nowt, done an indicated 180 with the old man on the way to the factory in Germany, felt planted as a rock! and yes i can honestly say Germany. biggrin

Cant condone the speed as the law is the law. To be expected the book would be thrown at him, and his excessive fuel consumption will have melted the ice caps!

He's getting done for dangerous driving. I wonder if he actually did anything dangerous?

There's even a comment on here that's not anti-driving fast..

Stinking populism, I despise this kind of prosecution.

If Britain were a pest it would be a particularly adroit barrel weevil, seeking new depths to excavate.

I salute the guy and wish him well, there but for the grace of God...

The law is the law and i do not condone anyone breaking the law, whether you agree or disagree with it. I have a nasty feeling he is owned some custodial time. I hope he goes in front of the judge sentenced a peado for 3 years community service 'cos he was a man of faith and in therapy. Considering he did not hurt anyone and admitted his guilt Mr. Brady may get 3 points and £60 fine. Now that would be a result.

Makes you wonder where the priorities of someone who could use the terms 'shocking' and 'horrific' about driving fast are doesn't it?

Innocent children being hacked to death in Rwanda is shocking and horrific. Women being executed by the Taleban for not wearing a veil in public is shocking and horrific. Driving a car fast really isn't....

Max Power arranged it in 1998 (99?) on the newly opened A1(M) stretch at Normans Cross south of P'boro.

Get real folks.

Sorry, but anyone caught doing 172 on a public road should be sentenced to go 5 rounds with Mark Tyson. Unfair? Yup, about as unfair as the person doing 50 on that stretch and not expecting him doing that or the children riding along on their treaders as he loses control or has a blowout Perhaps I could initiate a Claymore anti personnel mine in his kid's bedroom? Hey, there's a small chance they won't get hurt too.

Lets be under no illusions about this. This man is no motoring legend, no anti establishment icon.. he's just a sad tw#t with no sense of judgement, and that is far more important when driving quickly than just having a leaden right foot and no brain.
