Actually, let's put a little breathing space in and say, £90-95K.
You have (up to) £90-95K to spend on a car.

Would you get something you absolutely love and accept it might be worth £40K in no time flat, or would you buy something which you can be sure won't be worthless overnight?

The safe options i suppose would include a (used) 911 turbo, GT3 RS, M5 V10, F430, Gallardo, etc.

997 Turbo.

Or, a performance German and a selection of daftly depreciated corkers.

E.g: CL65AMG(£55k), nice E34 M5(£10k), Evo VIIRS XT330 (£15kcloud9), Cerbera (£15k).

If I had to get just ONE car, it would probably be an F575 ... or a Diablo.

Two cars? A Testarossa 512M and a Porsche 964 RS yes ... in pink!

That was what we said at the pub on Tuesday, when Ian mooted the possibility of having the funds in a year or so.

Nice position to be in smile If he doesn't blow it on flashy T shirts first.

Ian as I said on Tuesday evening what a great dilema to have, so much to choose from but I've narrowed down mine to 2
a 911 GT3 or GT3 RS, and I guess most of us petrol heads would love to experience a Fezza at some point in life so I'd go with either 456 or 355 spyder as well the GT3.

S65AMG could well be in the picture.

There does seem to be a lot of choice, once you get above £60K used.

Early Vanquish for 70-odd-K, 14k on a manual conversion, and spend the rest on petrol.

If I had it to spend right now. I would buy this:

An AC Aceca. A snip at 80k. It has a very intresting history which includes being owned by Donald Campbell. Very unlikley to drop in value and a beuatiful bit of driveable automotive history.

The way the S65AMG is plummeting in value, it's looking favourite.

I kinda like the thought of 4 luxurious seats, impeccable build quality, 612 bhp and 738 lbs-ft, with over 500 lbs-ft at 1750 rpm.

Two down, maybe the third in two years or so. hehe

Getting back on track for the OP, when spending shedloads on a car, I think it's more important to buy a car you really want, rather than spending as large an amount as you can justify.

I did exactly this when I bought my 996TT X50 (wanted a porsche since I went in one at the age of 12). If starting fresh today I'd probaly go for a 997TT, although some of the depreciated bargains out there nowadays means I may well blow £100k on a stable rather than a single horse!

I don't want loads of cars.
The CRV 2.2 TD (or something similar) will always be there, to do the chores.

Then, there will be a motorcycle and a 'decent' car.

I am thinking about the S65 AMG. But any decision is 16 months away yet!
