Firstly I'm not looking to buy just curious about what forgotten rocketships there are for very little dosh. I'm going to set a few criteria

No M5's - (fantastic car but) too obvious
Must be less than 10 yrs old
FSH
Mileage unimportant but condition must be good-excellent
Can be from any country
Must be stupidly quick

I've shamelessly stolen this link from another thread

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/176094.htm

What other suggestions do you have.

In standard wheelbase, the XJ has surprisingly little rear legroom so if you intend to often carry more than 1 passenger, it's not ideal.

Having owned an XJR I cannot recommend one highly enough, amazing and awe inspiring, I miss mine. Badly.

Unless your passengers are over 6.5ft it is not a problem. Our elderly relatives find it much easier to get in the back of our Jag than our Golf mk4 because it has MORE legroom.

Two doors so not strictly a saloon, but meets your other criteria

and the advert does say "FERRARI PERFORMANCE SALOON CAR COMFORT WITH ALL THE TRIMMINGS " (the advertiser's CAPS LOCK not mine). Maerati Ghibli 1998, asking price £9,990, challenging colour though, especially the interior

I'm six foot and I only fit in the back of my friend's one with his seat too far forward to be comfortable for him to drive. It might be the previous generation model though, I'm not good on Jags.

It's worth pointing out that you can dig out the Quattroporte version for the same money if you look hard enough.

You need to look through the "Best Barge Bargains" threads. Personally, I reckon the A8/S8 is a cracking buy for the money, if expensive to run.

Would this thread be precisely the same as the original Barge Bargain thread?

On the details given I'd struggle to beat the S8 already posted, it's a beast of a thing. I'd be well tempted by an XJR8 though, or an E38 750i and all its V12 goodness thumbup

I do like the honesty of the ad title smile

Personally I'd go for an XJR or maybe even an XK8, but I might just be old before my time.

Actually.... hang on a second. Almost forgot about the second best value secondhand car in Britain - the Alfa 166. Ok it's not rocket ship fast, but it's adequate, comfortably, very-well specced and gorgeous to look at; plus you can barely give them away.

edit: You said no M5s? What about the Alpina equivilant? scratchchin

Not quite - uber saloons only in here, TOP OF THE LINE (sorry about caps don't know how to underline) stuff for very little money.
