On this evening

From The Guardian:

'Motorway Cops: A Traffic Cops Special Jamie Theakston narrates a look into the work of traffic police in the Midlands, where the focus has switched from giving out tickets and helping stranded motorists to concentrate on catching travelling car thieves and burglars using the M6 to commit their crimes'

Thought this was really interesting. Good discretionary policing.

Makes me want to do something that actually makes a difference.

Hats off to all of you. beer

i atcually felt sorry for the guy with the ladder, i would have let him off without points but the guy going the wrong way would have gotten full scale punishment.

:- Several tons of blatantly stolen cable - go free
:- No license (no insurance etc then?), unrestrained kids - £170?
:- Wrong way up motorway - go free
:- 18yo Type-R driver, legit car, legit driver, legit misunderstanding, legit numberplate error, bad attitude - provoked and fined?

Really was a good watch and in my eyes show the RPU units in a good light and definitely all the good work that goes on, on this countries roads.

That lad, the 18 year old was a ing coAHEMing masAHEMing idiot of the highest degree, he really needs to watch that and feel embarrassed with the way in which he acted.

For the remarks regarding the idiot driving down the motorway the wrong way, I'm sure that on any other evening he wouldn't have got off so lightly.

To be honest if I was that BiB, I'd have fined the kid too. If he'd been a reasonable human being, and came up with the same story - "thought I had a week to get it fixed", then maybe you'd let him off. But being as he was an arrogant, impolite, little oik of the highest order, I thought they did well to fine him.

The kid was an absolute prick. Does this qualify him for harsher treatment than someone driving the wrong way up a motorway?

Apart from the young plod in the yellow van, tried to ticket me for 60 on a NSL dual carriageway, but his 'mentor' pulled him out the poo.

biglaugh I am not defending the kid, as I said, he was a prick and no doubt would be glad of trained professionals hunting his car down and detaining the scummy thieves should it ever be stolen, the point I was highlighting was, what seemed to me, the massive inconsistency throughout the program.
