Got a nice letter from the tts at the DVLA today. As I have had my photocard driving licence for 10 years I now have to pay an effin tax of £17.50 (plus the feckin cost of getting a photo).

In order to provide proof that it is really me, they want permission (as if the sts need it) to link it to my damn passport.

It getting beyond a joke now. Never mind the freakin ID card ste thats looming up whilst we all sit on our hands doing jack st, they want to tax me on my driving licence as well. Once they have brought the ID card bks in, why will I need a photo on my blinkin driving licence as well.

What a nice little earner for the tts. I hate them all, the parasitic, petty minded, snivelling, scumbags. They have just had over a £100 to put a reg. number on retention.

Feckers.

Go Away!

... but I didn't even know you had to renew a pic type driving licence.

Old style cellotaped together. Also more categories of vehicles covered to drive on old style to new. Not that it really matters!

I only changed mine recently because it's easier to carry than a passport when you need photo id to use a credit card in America.

Sent mine off for renewal too the other week. I got it back yesterday, pic doesn't fit the space, can barely see my signature, £17.50 off every driver is a shed load of dosh, thieving scum

Could someone please explain why your license is valid for over 50 years but the card itself expires after 10? What if you don't renew, presumably you're still permitted to drive?

Possibly something to do with you turning into an old fart while your photo card depicts a young fart...

But I might be wrong there....

change of address equals free license change still I beleive. Maybe you've just decided to give your house a name instead of a a number biggrin or you might have to move back to your parents house for a few days?

I moved a couple of years ago - my licence expires in December.

New pink card? Yes!

New expiry date? No!

bds.

Actually, I was quite surprised they didn't charge me to change the address on the card...

Only free for JUST an address change. If you want to update photo at the same time the charge still applies.

I changed my address a couple of weeks back, but didn't bother with the photo.

They want to link it to you're passport now do they, what if you don't have a passport then? as I am sure some people won't.
