Rear ended... what next?
Discussion
On the way home earlier this evening I was waiting to join a roundabout in Trafford Park, Manchester.
Happy as Larry...
Until Peugeot lady behind decides to set off before me!
So... one snapped bumper, slightly bent rear panel and smell of exhaust fumes in car later, what do I do now?
Never been involved in anything like this before and not sure what the "correct" procedure is.
We exchanged contact details at the scene but it's highly unlikely I'll claim on insurance as I was in my banger Escort so what happens now?

You really should contact your insurers, she most likely has contacted hers so they'll catch wind of it anyway. Any witnesses? If not then in my experience she will be advised by friends to just lie, and say you reversed or rolled into her. I'd get a bodyshop quote, and if she's honest enough to admit it, get her to give you cash. Then cancel the claim (it won't affect any future premium). You can then either pocket the money, get car repaired properly, or do a bodge job on it and pocket the difference.
As I say though...........don't be at all suprised if she doesn't admit liability and tries to blame you.....

Hollywood... At the scene she came running over to my car, checked we were both ok and admitted it was her fault.
She said she had been watching the flow of traffic at the other entrance/exit and thought I'd set off already.
I know what you mean though, it's quite feasible that she could change her story when push comes to shove but she did seem very genuine and sorry.
We'll see.

It's 100% her fault, so get her to report it to her insurers, get a quote on the damage and get them to pay for it. You can tell your own insurers if you want but they will probably hold it against you, even if it doesn't come out of their pocket. So I'd just deal with their insurers yourself.
OR
Drive around in a damaged car.

I might call her in a few days, tell her I can fix it for £100 or so and see what she says.
Someone hit me a few years ago. I didn't have a clue what to do so I told my insurer who sanctioned the repair to my car and then claimed it back from her insurer. Until the claim was settled I had to pay the excess and all of my out-of-pocket expenses, and my NCB was suspended (which was a bugger as my insurance was due for renewal literally a week later) but once my NCB was reinstated I got the difference back on my premium and my excess and other expenses.

So the general consensus is...
Tell my insurance company.
Don't tell my insurance company.
Ask her for money or drive with damage.
Thanks. Still none the wiser.

My policy says that all accidents (fault and non fault) must be reported immediately. Yours might not.
Personally I would call her first and see if she is interested in paying cash. If she is then get a quote and make her pay. Tell the insurance that you were involved in an accident but you wont be making a claim.
If she isnt interested in paying cash then claim on her insurance.
Leaving the car damaged will end up costing you money in the end, so either claim on her insurance, or let her pay cash if she wants.
