Look at the m25 near junction 2 for the answer they have just finished that there now. What i like is how they have included the speed camera's complete with warning signs clearly displayed on the gantrys which display NSL signs....a sign of things to come?

Good god, how much must that animation have cost!!!

I can see this being a very expensive fix for a problem that really need not exist..

Why not get all those pesky lorries onto railways...those that must remain on the roads are FORBIDDEN to overtake ever on a motorway....

Drivers trained to drive properly on motorways, and more police to catch those who drive like w1nkers...

It's a god knows how long video saying "We're gonna make the lanes smaller so we can have 4".

Then remove people who drive without insurance/licence/tax, and you'll find that suddenly we have very usable, not-very-full motorways.

The problem we have at the moment is not an expensive one to solve, but is a very expensive one to NOT solve.

And - Wideload - I agree wholeheartedly about the scamera thing. It's the first thing I thought of when I saw the 'gantries' on the video ...

I was about to say there's a huge amount of F40's in that vid. Owners club day out, I even spotted a bright pink one!

exactly, we will now have 4 lanes so that the bmw drivers can sit in lane 4 and cause mayhem, cos its one more, see!

my apologies to spinal tap. would be pointless if driving standards were to be improved.

Don't worry, all paid for by those overhead gantries "for driver information". rotate

I too noticed the new gantrys have speed camera signs up. So what are they planning rolling out 4 lanes and financing it with fixed penalties?? bunch of tits

Looks like we'll just set our cruise controls to 70 and have a kip. And then because our brains are not being stimulated we'll collide in the narrower lanes.

It will simply lead to more congestion - because the slower vehicles go, the longer they are on the road for. Ergo, more traffic, delay, stress and expense to everyone.

I reckon so how else would they "cover the cost" other than road tax of course. Just look at the dartford tunnel. The charge was started to allow it to pay for itself. It has already done this some years ago now so why have they not scrapped the charge?

I must say I was impressed, it showed the mentality of the highways agency quite well.

Lets hide the plan to roll out national speed cameras to watch you every second of every day by describing the gantries as "driver information" because all drivers are stupid and will fall for that one, oh and lets not be concerned with middle lane hogs, because we all know that speed is the real crime here, so lets build an extra lane for those who can't work out which lane to be in already, because that won't confuse the moronic nissan micra drivers will it.

On the lorry subject I agree entirely get them on the railways, but what I really do think needs sorting is on motorways which drop from 3 to 2 lanes they seem to be under the impression it is ok to overtake (not sure that is the right word, sit along side of) their mate in front for 5 or 6 miles.
